  • NEW EVENT : Introduction to Marketing Concepts will be an individual, objective test event for 9 th and 10 th .
  • MODIFICATION: 3-D Animation will be renamed Digital Animation and competitors will be able to submit their projects in any digital format (2-D or 3-D) they wish.
  • MODIFICATION: Introduction to Public Speaking and Public Speaking will now have a different topic posted each year from which the speech must be developed.
  • PROCEDURAL CHANGE: The cover and table of contents do not count toward the 15-page limit for reports.
  • PROCEDURAL CHANGE: The FBLA score sheets will be modified to include a “score range” for the descriptors of each expectation item.
  • PROCEDURAL CHANGE: Time penalties will be eliminated from all events, and timers will stop students from continuing once their allotted time has elapsed.
  • PROCEDURAL CHANGE: Permanently move to have all team event objective tests taken individually by each team member.  The scores of all team members will be averaged to determine the average team score.  Any team member who does not sign in and take the test will be removed from the team and prevented from advancing to final round competition.
  • PROCEDURAL CHANGE: Members may compete in an event at NLC more than once if they have not previously placed in the top ten of that event at NLC.  If a member places in the top ten of an event at NLC, they are no longer eligible to compete in that event.  This eliminates the exceptions for team events that were previously in place, as this change will now affect all events.
  • PROCEDURAL CHANGE:  Pilot a digital badging policy to give recognition to members who earn a proficient level (level to be determined) on objective tests.

Updates to FBLA High School Rating Sheets

Rating Sheets are currently being updated from a single point-entry option to a sliding scale, and all time penalties are being removed. Any rating sheets that require content changes to specific line items will be denoted in additional announcements as needed.

Mammel Hall – The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Future Business Leaders of America - Collegiate chapter (FBLA-C) recently competed in Orlando, FL, at the FBLA-C National Leadership Conference (NLC). They returned extremely successful, with all 6 members who attended placing at least once in the top ten in the national in their categories. Their places are as follows:

Joshua Santiago:

1st place in Accounting Case Competition

Savannah Boedigheimer:

6th place in Community Service Project

7th place in Entrepreneurship Pitch

7th place in Job Interview

McCartney Fitzgerald:

6th place in Foundations of Entrepreneurship

9th place in Foundations of Accounting

Josh Varner:

4th place in Foundations of Management

6th place in Foundations of Finance

Anastasia Hemmingson:

5th place in Business Communication

Kyra Creamer:

2nd place in Future Business Educator

3rd place in Job Interview

Santiago shares his story with FBLA-C that led him to his win:

“After having an unsuccessful run at Biochemistry, I started studying Accounting in my hometown at Northeast Community College. I knew that I was already a semester behind everyone else, so I was intrigued when an FBLA-C member came and presented to us in our business communications class. I went to a chapter meeting and had no idea that I would eventually go to NLC that year in San Antonio and place 2 nd in Accounting Analysis and Decision Making with my teammate, Trent Jorgensen," Santiago said. "I had only taken Accounting I up until that point, so I made a promise to myself that I would continue down the Accounting path and hopefully get a First Place position in the future. Fast forward to today, and I have fulfilled the promise that I made to myself five years ago. I couldn't have succeeded this semester without the unwavering support of some of my professors such as Dr. Jasa, Dr. Venkatesh, and Dr. Riley as well as all my other professors who I have had the pleasure of studying under at UNO. I encourage EVERY student at UNO to check out this organization as it will help you prepare for job interviews, presentations, and resume prep at the very least. If you maximize your time in FBLA-C like I did, you will walk away with something even better - a lifelong network of movers and shakers who strive to make the world a better place.”

The team says they are very proud of all of the competitors from their chapter, especially their national champion Joshua Santiago. They are even more proud to represent their fantastic and supporting community and phenomenal university. They hope these members and their hard work will inspire other students to join, make a bigger impact on Their community and fellow classmates, and continue to strive for success in future years.
