How to get a perfect local copy of a web page?
No matter what browser I've tried (even Chrome), when saving a web page as local files, it's never quite exact. Lots of JavaScript & such seems to trip it up. I'm looking for some way to get a 100% perfect local copy of a web page. In other words, all CSS/images/JavaScripts should pull down as well AND the HTML references to said content should be changed to point to a local folder. Is there a way to do this? I'm primarily on a Mac but I have access to Linux.

The reason "Lots of JavaScript & such seems to trip it up" is probably that so many companies use content management systems (Joomla, Drupal and Wordpress) , which use those to query databases for content. If that is the case, you will not get the whole page like you want. So it depends on the web page.
Try downloading the website using HTTrack . The options allow you to configure how the locally downloaded files will be linked, and what exactly is downloaded. Windows, Linux, and Mac builds are available.
You need to download the entire website with Httrack (you need to set it so it doesn't download external JavaScripts)... just run it, then see the directories which downloaded, run Httrack again and exclude (f.e. - .googlesyndication.com/* - .facebook.net/ -*.google-analytics.com/** etc.)
You can also use Wget:
When you are done you still need to rewrite all the links so they don't point at .../index.html. This solves Dynamic to Static HTML Convertor .

On google chrome or firefox, you can use the Save Page WE extension to get a highly accurate copy of a web page (as currently displayed) as a single html file.
Worked perfectly for me where everything else failed.
- Firefox : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/save-page-we/versions/
- Chrome : https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/save-page-we/dhhpefjklgkmgeafimnjhojgjamoafof
EDIT: there is also the Single File extension:
- Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/single-file/
- Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/singlefile/mpiodijhokgodhhofbcjdecpffjipkle?hl=en
- Microsoft Edge: https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/singlefile/efnbkdcfmcmnhlkaijjjmhjjgladedno
It even gives you the following options:
- Enable "save to Google Drive" to upload pages to Google Drive.
- Enable "add proof of existence" to prove the existence of saved pages by linking the SHA256 of the pages into the blockchain

If you are on Linux then you might want to give a try to this command.
I offers more flexibility to download from the Internet.
Example:- on terminal type
-m stands for mirror (of a website). You can also specify depth for downloading a website.

How to Copy a Web Page to Word

Copying a Web page to Microsoft Word is a little more complex than using Word's faithful copy and paste function, and you may have trouble formatting your content correctly when you try to copy the page into your Word document. Sometimes your formatting won't match the rest of your document; on other occasions it won't keep its original formatting when you need it to. Word does have a few options built in to modify your formatting after you paste it in; you can also make use of the Paste Special feature for additional options.

Use Built-in Paste Options
Word often tries to automatically format content as you paste it into a document, which can often be more of a nuisance than a help. Luckily, Word also immediately presents you with different paste formatting options depending on how you want the document to look. After you paste your text into your document, look for the icon of the clipboard that appears at the end of the text you just pasted. Click it to see three different options: "Keep Source Formatting," "Merge Formatting" and "Keep Text Only." The first option pastes the text as it was on the Web page, the second formats the text to match the rest of your document, and the third pastes the text plainly with no formatting at all. You can hover over each option without clicking them to see a preview.

Use Special Paste Options
Word's "Paste Special" feature has more options for pasting content, including one just for Web pages. Instead of clicking "Paste" or using the equivalent keyboard shortcut, click the arrow under "Paste" and choose "Paste Special." From here you can choose between HTML format and unformatted text. You will also see options for whether you want to use unformatted Unicode or not. Unicode ensures that all characters and symbols can be used, such as characters from different languages. In the past, characters not using Unicode might show up as boxes or question marks, but Word now automatically uses Unicode so it doesn't matter which of the two unformatted options you choose.

7 ways to copy content from a website with disabled text selection and right clicking

“… if it’s online, in one way or another it can be copied”
Since the beginning, the idea of having the internet was as a result of the need to share information freely.
Over the years website developers have come up with several ways to ‘disable’ copying of information from websites. But if you know what you are doing and where to look no such barriers can prevent getting what you want.
The most common way websites use to disable copying and right click involves use of JavaScript, whereas others use simple styling properties to disable text selection.
Personally, I would not advise any of my clients to implement these restrictions on their websites since it only gives your visitors a bad experience.
Below are some of the ways you can copy content from a website that has disabled text selection and/or right-clicking.
1. Disable JavaScript from the browser
As I mentioned in the beginning most website use JavaScript to disable text selection and right-clicking. Luckily browsers have a setting where you can either enable or disable JavaScript and in this case disable it, save and reload the page.
Once done copying don’t forget to activate javascript because some websites like facebook and other heavy rely on JS and disabling it will break these websites.

2. Copy from website source code
Websites are written in hypertext markup language (HTML). This code can be viewed by right clicking on the website if not disabled and selecting “View source”
For beginners, this will be confusing and overwhelming and you might require basic HTML skills.
However, if the website has disabled right click simply put below on your browser followed by the website/page URL
- view-source:https://www.manjemedia.com
Once you have access to the code you can easily get the information you want and copy paste as you desire.

3. Select from inspect element.
I will recommend this method for copying a small amount of text, it’s tedious. If the website is right click enabled but you can’t select the text simply right click on the text and choose “Inspect element” A small window will open with the web page source codes.
The only task will be to find the text within the codes mostly held by “<p></p>” code which you can comfortably copy. I know it’s confusing but check out below, to help you understand

4. Using Proxy Sites
As opposed to disabling JavaScript from browser’s setting, some proxy website will give you an option to disables JavaScript before accessing a website.
There are many websites offering this service, search for “free proxy website” on your favorite search engine and begin to experiment.
5. Print website to PDF
In this case, you need to install print-to-PDF drivers such as PDFCreator. After installing the drivers you can easily print that web page to PDF which you can then copy the content you require.
6. Disable from CSS user-select property
CSS, i.e. Cascading Style Sheets, is what defines how the website looks likes i.e. the colors, fonts e.t.c This tool can also be used to disable text selection on a website using the property. user-select
Using inspect element window locate this property on the CSS. If you find it ‘untick’ to disable it.
7. Take a screenshot of the content.
This is particularly useful with images where you can take a screenshot of the image/s from the restricted website and save it in your computer.
In addition, using OCR . i.e “Optical Character Recognition” technology one can extract all visible text as editable text and copy the text.
It’s best practice to always acknowledge the source once you copy any information from a website, that way you won’t be stealing.

same situation
Simplest way is to save the Page using ctrl+S, then Open it locally. There you go and do what ever you want with it.
Yes, you can do that but saving the page also downloads the scripts that disable copying.
in Firefox Browser ver.72 menu View/ Enter Reader view (F9 key) enables select and copy text. Enjoy
Thanks, Attila
@Atilla Based on your FireFox comment I found a Chrome equivalent:
In Chrome go to: chrome://flags/#enable-reader-mode Then select “Enabled” Then browser restarts, opening all tabs automatically (phew) Then if you want to copy and paste, go to the Chrome menu (…) and select “Toggle reader mode”. If you want to view pages normally again, toggle it again.
same in microsoft edge.
Attila, you’re wonderful. This simple hack just saved a life. Thanks
By far the easiest way. Using ctrl+S the page can be saved as a html-file. After that open the html in Windows Word and you can edit and copy/paste.
thanks you saved me a lot, im in 8th right now
Download the page and it through word
Open it through microsoft word

How to copy this plz help
https://www.learncbse.in/class-12-geography-notes-chapter-16/
Hello Neeraj, I have checked the link and you can view the page source and copy the text as required. Follow option 2
Regarding point 3. Select from inspect element.
Some elements have text split across multiple elements. So, you can’t just copy paste the text from the inspector tool.
Here is a work around using chrome browser. But, one needs to know how browser debugging tools work to understand this.
1 – Find out which html element contains the protected text (use the selector tool, press ctrl + shift + C and hover around the right element.)
2 – In elements tab, right click the selected element > click copy > click copy element.
3 – Create a text file with .html extension and the tags ” “. Paste the text copied in step 2 between the html tags and save.
4 – Open your html page and copy the text without problems.
To avoid copy pasting try this JS script – https://superuser.com/a/1282849 . I have not tried it myself though.
Was really annoyed when I could neither download nor copy my textbook available online. Attila’s suggestion worked for me. Thanks, Attila. Thanks, Ben, for making it happen

There is also a way to copy content from “password” elements. They show only dots and are not copyable. Open inspector, select the arrow in the top left corner (for finding elements in html code). Then click on the password field, and edit the type property of the html element. From “password” to “text”. Click enter to apply changes. This is useful when trying to figure out a password you haven’t written
The first way worked with me , thanks
Using Evernote WebClipper works magic to copy protected text. Simply use the browser extension to save a page to Evernote and find it there as editable/copyable text, including all the images.
web archive the web page works for many sites, also.
Awesome. An article that actually resolves the problem. Much appreciated!

Making Code Copyable on Your Page
Most of the articles in the Willmaster Library and Blog contain source code you can copy and paste. The code may be JavaScript, PHP, Perl, HTML, or other.
Generally, source code is put into a pre tag or into a textarea form field.
If that's all there was to it, then this article would be done.
But angle brackets and ampersands need special handling. Quotes, too. Let's use this sentence for an illustration.
Jack & Jill — up the hill.
The sentence is within paragraph tags and it publishes an em dash.
To provide the source code for a site owner to publish that sentence, you would need to provide this for copying and pasting.
And how would you get that copyable source code published on your page, so the HTML markup and the HTML entity show up as source code?
In other words, how do you publish source code that shows up like source code?
Use this table to convert every occurrence of the listed characters into their equivalent HTML entities.
When that is done for the "Jack & Jill" sentence source code, you end up with this.
You put that source code into your web page so your web page publishes source code that's copyable by others so they can publish the sentence on their web pages.
Here is how it works.
You put this into the source code of your web page.
When you do that, this is what publishes on your web page that other people can copy.
When other people copy the source code from your web page and paste it into the source code of their own web page, it will appear like this:
Here is a generator you can use to convert source code into characters you can publish on your web page so the source code is available for others. (Try <p>Jack & Jill — up the hill.</p> for testing.)
You are welcome to use the generator here. You are also welcome to put the generator on your own web page.
Here is the generator source code.
The generator is PHP software and may be saved with any file name ending with the .php file name extension.
The generator can be used by putting its URL into the web browser.
With the generator, it is now easier to create source code that publishes as source code for people to copy.

How to copy text and images from a web page
Copying text or an image from a web page can be useful for taking notes or generating documentation. Select a link below for help on how to copy text and images from a web page, and other useful information.
The instructions on this page are for copying web page content from a computer, not a tablet or smartphone device.
To copy more than text and images (e.g., scripts , CSS (cascading style sheets), HTML (hypertext markup language)), see: How to copy something from a web page to my web page.

How to copy text from a web page
To copy text from a web page, find the beginning of the text you want to copy. Press and hold the left mouse button. Then, drag the mouse from the top-left to the bottom-right part of the section of text you want to copy.

To copy the highlighted text, on your keyboard, press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C or right-click the highlighted text and click Copy .
To paste text, place your cursor in the appropriate location and press the keyboard shortcut key combination Ctrl + V , or right-click where you want to paste the text and click Paste .
The text is copied from the web page to a new or existing document. From there, you can change the formatting of the text (bold, italics, font color or size, etc.).
When pasting text in a program that supports formatting, like Microsoft Word , the format, font, and layout of the text may be copied. To copy text without the formatting, use the paste special or paste text feature of the program you are pasting the text.
How to copy an image from a web page
To save ( download ) an image, right-click any image on a website to view the properties menu for that image, as shown below. To copy that image into another document, click the Copy image option from the menu. To save the image file to your computer, so it can be used or uploaded elsewhere choose the Save image as option.

The above example of the right-click menu is in Google Chrome . If you are using Internet Explorer or another Internet browser , your menu options may differ. You may see options for Copy and Save picture as . Use these options, instead of the options stated above, to achieve the same results.
If you selected the Save image as option, a Save As or Save Picture window would open, allowing you to choose where to save the image and to change the name. Click the Save button to save the picture to your computer.
Some web pages may disable the right-click ability or have their page setup to prevent the copying or saving of images using the above method.
Pasting the image
If you selected the Copy image option, that image is saved to the clipboard . To paste the image, move the cursor to where you want to paste and press Ctrl + V or right-click where you want to paste the image and select Paste .
A plain text program, such as Notepad , does not support images and the paste option is not available.
The act of copying text and images is not illegal. However, how you use the information may be restricted by the web page's Copyright . For example, copying all text from a web page and using it on another web page is against most sites' Copyrights because it's duplicating their content.
If you're uncertain about the Copyright rules, contact the article author or the webmaster of the web page asking for permission to use their content.
Most Copyright related information is found in the Copyright links or legal pages found on the bottom of most web pages.

How to copy text from web page that cannot be copied.
August 16, 2022 Matt Mills How to 0
Are you an internet researcher and frequently copy and paste text from web pages? If yes, then you surely have faced situations where you can’t copy and paste text from some web pages. So, you must be interested in knowing how to copy text from web page that cannot be copied. Or how to copy text from a website that won’t let you? Don’t worry; here is a complete guide that will teach you different ways that you can use to copy and paste text from restricted web pages.
So, let’s get started.
Why Can’t I Copy and Paste?
Sometimes, website owners have restricted their websites, so users can’t copy the text due to their data privacy. They restrict the website’s source code to not allow anyone on the website to select text. When you can’t select any text, you will be unable to copy and paste the data. In some cases, you might see a warning message “ please do not copy text .”
This is why when you try to copy and paste on some websites, it doesn’t work.
The reason is that some website owners do not want their data to be used by anyone, so you can’t copy or paste from them directly. That is why it is important to know how to copy text from web page that cannot be copied.

Copy and Paste Not Working
Sometimes there is no restriction on the web page to select and copy data but your system’s copy and paste not working. It’s because there could be a glitch or software brick on your computer system.
In these situations, either your copy or paste not working directly or pasting the wrong data. So, in this situation, you can use the following methods.

The first and the easiest method to copy and paste data from web pages that cannot be copied is the screenshot to text. In this way, you can easily copy and paste the data without having deep knowledge of source code or anything else.
So, here are the steps that you can use to copy and paste data with the help of the screenshot-to-text method.
- First, you will have to download and Install PDNob Image Translator on your PC or laptop.
- Now, go to the web page where you can’t select or copy the text and press the Ctrl+Alt+ Z on Windows and Command + 1 on MAC. Here your cursor will convert into a selection tool, and you will have to select the area where you want to copy the text.

Here you will see all the text along with some codes, so you can easily copy and paste data from there. This is how to highlight and copy text on sites that block it.

how to make non copyable html page like google book
I am just curious if I can be able to copy books from google or not.And I am also curious to know what to make such kind of material.
- google-books
I suppose the best way is to convert the text pages to images. You'd still be able to capture the images, but they wouldn't be in text form anymore; to get them back in their original form, you'd have to OCR them, which is an arduous process.
- well, i researched a bit and of course it was an png image, but could you explain what is OCR – S L Feb 18, 2011 at 8:31

Facebook users in US have until Friday to claim their piece of Meta's $725 million settlement

Facebook users in the United States have until Friday to apply for their share of a $725 million privacy settlement that parent company Meta agreed to pay late last year.
In 2018, lawsuits were initiated due to a scandal involving Cambridge Analytica, a British consulting firm that was involved in Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. It was revealed that they had gained access to the personal Facebook data of up to 87 million users, primarily in the United States.
The settlement pertains to almost all Facebook users residing in the United States who held an account between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022. You can still collect money from the settlement even if you've deleted your Facebook account.
If you wish to file an online claim, please ensure that it is done before Friday at 11:59 p.m. P.T. Alternatively, if you choose to send your claim by mail, ensure that the letter is postmarked by Friday to be considered valid.
How do I claim money from the Facebook settlement?
If you're a Facebook user in the U.S. who joined between May 24, 2007, and Dec. 22, 2022, you can submit an application online at facebookuserprivacysettlement.com to claim your settlement.
If your claim is approved by the settlement administrator, you will give up the right to sue the Defendant in a separate lawsuit about the legal claims or factual allegations this settlement resolves.
Facebook could owe you money. Here's how to get cash from Meta's $725 million settlement.
How much money will I get from the Facebook settlement?
It is still being determined how much money will be received from the settlement due to the uncertainty of how many users will submit claims. The more users submit claims, the less money there will be to go around.
How long will it take for me to receive my settlement?
As per the settlement website, the final hearing for approval is scheduled for Sept. 7. The distribution of payments will commence promptly after.

Biden-Harris Administration Announces Nearly $700 Million to Connect People in Remote and Rural Areas to High-Speed Internet
Funding is Part of President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda
WASHINGTON, Aug. 21, 2023 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced nearly $700 million in grants and loans to connect thousands of rural residents, farmers and business owners in 22 states and the Marshall Islands to reliable, affordable high-speed internet through the ReConnect Program, funded by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This program is uniquely designed to fund the most difficult high-speed internet projects in the nation, which are the most rural, remote and unserved communities.
Connecting all communities across the United States to high-speed internet is a central part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda to rebuild the economy from the bottom up and middle out by rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure. This agenda is driving more than $500 billion in private-sector manufacturing investments, rebuilding America’s infrastructure, lowering costs, and creating good-paying jobs. And it’s transforming our country for the better – reaching communities in every corner of the United States, including those that have too often been left behind.
“Keeping the people of rural America connected with reliable, high-speed internet brings new and innovative ideas to the rest of our country and creates good-paying jobs along the way,” Secretary Vilsack said. “Thanks to President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we are connecting rural communities to a global marketplace. These investments will support economic growth and prosperity for generations to come.”
Today’s high-speed internet investments are part of the fourth funding round of the ReConnect Program . Many residents and businesses in rural areas would not have high-speed internet service without the ReConnect Program, as the program is a key part of the Administration’s Internet for All initiative to connect everyone in America to high-speed internet by 2030. Today’s announcement includes $667 million in USDA investments in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and the Marshall Islands.
Today’s announcement includes several investments that will benefit people living in Rural Partners Network (RPN) communities. RPN works with hundreds of federal, state and local partners to address specific needs in rural communities that have long struggled to access government programs and funding. RPN helps these communities carry out locally driven plans to create jobs, build infrastructure and support economic growth and stability.
Examples of projects in this announcement include:
- In North Carolina, Star Telephone Membership Corporation is receiving a $24.9 million grant to benefit 2,674 people, 84 businesses, 117 farms and four educational facilities in Bladen, Columbus and Sampson counties. Bladen and Columbus are part of an RPN community.
- In Oregon, Pioneer Telephone Cooperative is receiving a $24.9 million grant to benefit 2,239 people, 50 businesses, 205 farms and one educational facility in Lincoln, Lane and Benton counties.
- In New Mexico, SWC Telesolutions Inc. is receiving a $9.2 million grant to benefit 4,962 people, 106 businesses, 11 farms and 17 educational facilities in Doña Ana and Sierra counties. Doña Ana County is part of an RPN community.
Also, as part of USDA’s commitment to expand high-speed internet access, the Hood Canal Telephone Co. Inc. is receiving a $3.8 million loan through the Telecommunications Infrastructure Loan & Loan Guarantee Program . This investment will help construct 16 miles of fiber to provide high-speed internet access to 800 households and 10 businesses in Union, Washington.
A full list of projects from today’s announcement is available online.
Background: ReConnect Program
Applicants to ReConnect Program funding must serve a rural area that lacks access to service at speeds of 100 megabits per second (Mbps) download and 20 Mbps upload. Applicants must also commit to building facilities capable of providing high-speed internet service with speeds of 100 Mbps (download and upload) to every location in the proposed service area. Additionally, to ensure that rural households that need internet service can afford it, all awardees will be required to apply to participate in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). The ACP offers a discount of up to $30 per month toward internet service to qualifying low-income households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal Lands.
Background: Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
President Biden forged consensus and compromise between Democrats, Republicans and Independents to demonstrate our democracy can deliver big wins for the American people. After decades of talk on rebuilding America’s crumbling infrastructure, President Biden delivered the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – a historic investment in America that will change people’s lives for the better and get America moving again.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides $65 billion to ensure every American has access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet through a historic investment in broadband infrastructure deployment. The legislation also lowers costs for internet service and helps close the digital divide, so that more Americans can take full advantage of the opportunities provided by internet access.
