The Scenic Rooftop Bar That’s Home To The Best Views In The City
Unmissable views, twenty storeys high.
When it comes to experiencing Manchester, immersing yourself right in the buzz of it all is usually the best way to see it at its finest. That is, except, when there’s the opportunity to experience it high up in the sky. Sitting – appropriately – twenty storeys high above Spinningfields, 20 Stories boasts some of the most impressive, panoramic views of Manchester city centre, a view that can’t be seen anywhere else. In fact, I can count on just two fingers the places that allow Mancs to experience such a sight, with the vast majority of Manchester’s bar scene keeping its feet firmly on the ground.

Helping guests feel like they’re floating in the clouds not only with their floor-to-ceiling windows, but with their menus, too, guests can enjoy decadent cocktails and wines on their outdoor terrace, with indoor seating also placed up by the glass so guests can dine in front of the spectacular city sights whatever the weather.
Spy ant-like figures going about their days down below, the town hall dominating the skyline and Beetham Tower looming over everything that surrounds, all the while soaking up the sun on 20 Stories’ seasonally decorated rooftop terrace. This summer on the terrace, guests can expect a beautiful ‘summer hideaway’ in collaboration with Tanqueray, boasting a fruity-themed archway, cosy seating that’s perfect for mate dates, and a curated menu of refreshing cocktails.

Food-wise, the menu is packed with locally sourced ingredients whipped up into dishes that draw inspiration from all corners of the globe – including the Mediterranean and Britain itself. Think the likes of ‘Manchester Gin’ beetroot cured Scottish salmon , Harrisa marinated spatchcock poussin , 35 days dry-aged steaks and roast skrei cod , as well as British puds such as rhubarb and custard , Eton Mess , and a selection of tasty British cheeses .

On Sundays, it’s all about the classic roast – with live music usually accompanying (COVID-dependant) to create an ambient atmosphere and sirloin of beef and roast pork gracing the menu, both of which are served with roasties, veggies, crispy Yorkshire puds and thick, rich gravy. It’s basically every Northerner’s Sunday dream. Tipple in hand, and a proper good roast with a view.

Open now for both casual drinks and, brunch, lunch, Afternoon Tea and dinner, guests can book tables both indoors and outdoors, with their brand new summer cocktail menu available to try all season long. Book here and find them at 20 Stories, NO. 1, 1 Hardman Square, Manchester, M3 3EB.

“Excellent food” Review of 20 Stories Restaurant

We visited here tonight for our anniversary. The food was delicious, very well presented, not as small as I first anticipated on the plate either! Cocktails were also fabulous. The only reason I didn't give 5/5 is that we were seated close to a dumbwaiter and the staff kept congregating and chatting continually amongst themselves

Hi Louise, Thank you for your review and your feedback on your visit. It's great to hear how much you enjoyed dining with us on your anniversary. We have shared your comments with the team for further staff training. We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Best Wishes, Kim and the 20 Stories team

I've been 4 times now. Each time gets worse as reflected by other reviews. There's no doubt that this is the absolute best place for a wow factor drink in Manchester, but that's just it, a drink on the terrace. The prices are absolutely laughable to be honest, it shouldn't even serve food, it should just be a flashy bar and that's it. Furthermore, I've never personally experienced bad service here as a customer BUT I notice that a lot of other people have. And I could hazard a guess why.... When a place is run by someone who talks to staff and contractors like absolute dirt, what do you expect. Management should be remember that opinion isn't just forged from experience received as a paying customer, it's also made from experience received behind the scenes making your establishment what it is (and as profitable as it is) and also word of mouth. People who do work for you are as likely to be your paying customer as much as anyone else.
Thank you for taking the time to review 20 Stories. We're very sorry to see your comments on our staff and management, as you mentioned you have personally not experienced any issues. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss further if you'd like to contact me via [email protected] I look forward to hearing from you. Best Wishes, Kim and the 20 Stories team
Being opened originally as a real attraction as ended it is being 20 stories high. Great in the fabulous summer we have had but now cold and uninviting. Even the staff now wear anoraks in the outside bar area but the unprepared punters sit with ever approaching hypothermia. The heating is not great in the inside restaurant but this is generated by the supercilious cold attitude of the restaurant reception staff with their take it or leave it attitude. Whilst the food is as expected from Aiden Byrne his grumpy arrogant chefs attitude is allowed to rub off on the £8.00 and hour staff which should not be tolerated. They require serious retraining in the area of acceptable customer service without the unjustified arrogance which leads to spoiling what should be a real dining experience. The food cannot be faulted but it should not have to be enjoyed in a Fawlty Towers situation. The place is over staffed and has to be paid for but bar prices are ridiculous with Cloudy Bay Sauvignon at £79.00 per bottle + can you believe it, a service charge. Twenty Stories will not exist into the winter months of January, February, March etc. without a re think. Manchester will not put up with it.
Hi Stephen, Thank you for taking the time to review 20 Stories. We are sorry to see your thoughts on our staff and service, especially as you enjoyed the food so much. Should you wish to discuss any of these points further we will be more than happy to. [email protected] Best Wishes, Kim and the 20 Stories team
My favourite place to eat and drink in Manchester. All the staff are very helpful and accommodating. 10/10 will be back.
Hi Joel, Thank you for your review. We're so happy to hear we're your favourite place to eat and drink! Look forward to seeing you again soon. Best Wishes, Kim and the 20 Stories team
Had a great night here. Really friendly door and bar staff. Nice drinks with an amazing view! Will definitely be returning.
Hi Max, Thank you for a great review. We're so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your night with us! Hope to see you soon for more drinks on the terrace. Best Wishes, Kim and the 20 Stories team

SquareMeal Review of 20 Stories
Silver Award
Occupying the 19th-floor rooftop of No.1 Spinningfields, 20 Stories is the first Manchester project from the D&D London restaurant group, which already operates a handful of sites in London such as 14 Hills and Bluebird Chelsea, as well as locations in Leeds, Paris and New York.
20 Stories is split between a glamorous restaurant and more casual grill, which offer distinct and locally sourced menus at different price points, with a cocktail bar and roof terrace boasting 360-degree views of the city skyline.
The restaurant offers an à la carte menu which might not come cheap but is stuffed full of luxurious ingredients such as truffle, wild turbot and game, while a pre-theatre menu offers excellent value at two courses for under £20. A starter of squab pigeon with cherries and violet mustard saw the breast cooked pink with a tender confit leg on the side, while a main of John Dory was perfectly poached, served with foamy langoustine velouté and white asparagus, with crispy chicken skin adding textural contrast.
Over in the grill section, everyday favourites such as cottage pie topped with celeriac purée and buttery mash or cod cheeks and chips are joined by a selection of 32-day dry-aged rare-breed steaks. A 10oz Galloway rib eye was beautifully marbled, juicy and full of flavour, served with beef dripping chips and bone marrow gravy.
Aside from the à la carte, guests can also indulge in a classic afternoon tea, which begins with a selection of finger sandwiches such as cucumber and cream cheese, and corn-fed chicken with truffle mayonnaise. Sandwiches are followed by freshly-baked scones which can be slathered in clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam, while the afternoon tea culminates with a range of sweet treats – think Manchester Victoria sponge and Vimto macarons.
All in all, a stunning venue, with service to match.
Good to know
You'll find 20 Stories way up high on the 19th floor of No.1 Spinningfields in Central Manchester, where naturally, the magnificent view is a highlight. Few venues in the city boast the same high rise, panoramic views of Manchester, and it's quite a sight at night when the city lights up all around you.
Still, 20 Stories is more than just a good view. Menus here showcase the very best of the north west, taking great British produce and sliding it into a seasonal modern European menu that has something for everyone. To kick things off, there are starters like giant king prawns in garlic and chilli butter, citrus-cured salmon with yuzu and daikon salad, and pressed ham hock terrine with piccalilli. Then you have a host of mains -pan-fried stone bass with crab Jersey Royals, and ras-el-hanout cauliflower steak with romesco, for example - but there are also steaks cooked over charcoal, and sharing dishes for two, like a whole Native lobster cooked in garlic butter and served with truffle and Parmesan fries.
Meanwhile, the bar has devised a contemporary cocktail list that mixes classics with innovative signature. Pick something traditional, or branch out and try the Nicolas Sage (Cambridge Dry Gin, Eager Pineapple, sageand Aperol tincture and lime), or the fruity Manchester Tart Punch (Havana Club 7yr, raspberry, coconut syrup, Maraschino cherry liqueur, lemon, apple, vanilla foam). There are plenty of craft beers on offer as well, many from local breweries, and an extensive wine list carefully curated by 20 Stories head sommelier.
An abundance of windows means the 20 Stories is full of natural light in the day, then matches the moody atmosphere of the evening when the sun goes down, making it perfect of any occasion at any time of day.

First time in and very impressed.
Great service and food was lovely.
MARIE LOUISE L
My son took me for my birthday. The setting was lovely and service was good but slow. The table was booked for 2pm and we waited an extra 15 mins to be seated. Once we placed our order, we waited another 50 minutes to get the starter. There wasn't enough food and if you wanted sides you had to pay extra! We were very hungry by the time the food came. Drinks are very expensive and the food not value for money but a lovely setting and experience. We spent £10 on water! Then £7 was added for service and £1 fir charity. You would have to ask them to remove the charges from the bill if you didn't want to pay which is awkward.
We partook in the pre theatre menu at £25 for three courses and a glass of wine. This was decent value at the price, however at the full price menu we believe this would be lost. We experienced a slight issue with receiving cold food, which we raised with staff. My dining partner also experienced unsatisfactory lavatory conditions. Overall decent value at the price, but only reccomend when dining on an offer.

GENEVA (AP) — Arsenal scored six to advance in the Champions League as a group winner on Wednesday and Manchester United stayed last in its group despite again scoring three times away from home.
Arsenal’s 6-0 rout of Lens ensured second-place PSV Eindhoven also advanced from Group B to the round of 16. PSV’s second-half rally to win 3-2 at Sevilla was clinched by United States forward Ricardo Pepi in stoppage time.
There are now 12 confirmed teams in the round of 16 draw on Dec. 18 and Man United is in serious danger of missing out.
The three-time European champion led by two goals after 18 minutes at Galatasaray and 3-2 early in the second half but was pegged back again in a wild 3-3 draw.
United only does topsy-turvy road games in Europe this season after 4-3 losses at group winner Bayern Munich and second-place Copenhagen.
“As a team, we have to learn from it because we are conceding too many goals and it is unnecessary and avoidable,” United manager Erik ten Hag said.
A hat trick of three-goal games on their travels has brought just a single point back for ten Hag’s players, who need to beat Bayern at Old Trafford in two weeks’ time.
Only four other Champions League teams this season have scored more than United’s 12-goal total and they all top their groups and have advanced to the knockout phase.
Real Madrid is one of them after a 4-2 win over second-place Napoli ensured the record 14-time champion will finish atop Group C.
Teams that top their standings are seeded in the round of 16 draw on Dec. 18 and avoid other group winners like defending champion Manchester City. Teams also cannot be drawn against an opponent from their own country.
Bayern drew 0-0 with Copenhagen , one of two games with no goals on a night when the other six games delivered 31.
Real Sociedad was held 0-0 by Salzburg to set up a last-game showdown with second-place Inter Milan at San Siro for the top spot in Group D. Both Sociedad and Inter already advanced three weeks ago.
Inter produced the night’s other second-half fightback in a 3-3 draw at Benfica , which wasted a three-goal lead at halftime earned by João Mario’s hat trick against his former club.
Braga drew 1-1 with Union Berlin and can still advance by winning at Napoli on Dec. 12.
Jude Bellingham was a standout again for Real Madrid in what is becoming the 20-year-old England star’s routine excellence this season.
Bellingham scored Madrid’s second goal against Napoli to make it four goals in four Champions League games for his new club and provided an assist for Joselu in stoppage time.
“Bellingham is a gift to football, not just this club,” Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. “The world’s delighted to see a guy with this talent, potential, promise and hopefully, he’ll just continue as he is.”
Bellingham now has scored 15 goals in his first 16 matches with Madrid wearing the No. 5 shirt of the great Zinedine Zidane.
“Bellingham has surprised everyone. No one could have expected this,” Ancelotti said. “He’s got to improve his Spanish but as I always say — nobody’s perfect.”
ONANA ERRORS
Andre Onana’s goalkeeping errors have cost Manchester United in losses at Bayern and at home to Galatasaray, and almost led to another defeat Wednesday in Istanbul.
For each of Hakim Ziyech’s two goals from free kicks, Onana’s positional play or handling could be faulted.
“We win and lose together,” Ten Hag said when asked about Onana who he also coached at Ajax. “He is OK. As I said, it is not about individuals. Of course, individual errors in football can make a difference and you take responsibility for it but it is always about the team.”
PLAYING FOR THIRD
Third place in a Champions League ensures European games into the new year, albeit in the second-tier Europa League.
The eight third-place teams when group play ends in two weeks’ time enter the knockout playoff round against runners-up in Europa League groups. Those pairings are drawn on Dec. 18.
Man United could end up third even if it beats Bayern on Dec. 12, the same night Copenhagen hosts Galatasaray.
Salzburg needs only a draw at home to Benfica in two weeks to clinch third place in Group D
Europa League title holder Sevilla can rise off the bottom of Group B by winning at Lens on Dec. 12 and getting back into the competition it won seven times in the past 18 seasons.
Winning the Europa title also is a ticket back to the Champions League next season.

The latter of the two shows also follows on from another headline show at Wythenshawe Park earlier this year, when another Manchester local Noel Gallagher headlined the debut event with his solo project High Flying Birds .

Over 2023, New Order celebrated the 40th anniversary of their seminal track ‘Blue Monday’, and announced reissued editions of their classic compilation ‘Substance 1987’ to mark the milestone – the band’s biggest-selling album to date.
The newly announced shows also follow on from their headline slot at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound festival over this summer and, more recently, founding member Bernard Sumner joined forces with Gogol Bordello to share a cover of punk classic ‘Solidarity’ , with profits being donated to a relief charity in Ukraine.
Earlier this year, Sumner also spoke to NME about his recent collaboration with Mella Dee ‘Riptide’ , and what the future holds.
“It was all about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and I was just seeing that all of the time,” he said, recalling the political inspiration for the lyrics. “I’d been in a vacuum so I wrote it about politics, really, and the war. I wanted to write it about something that meant a lot to me.”
As for Johnny Marr, the indie music icon announced details of his compilation album ‘Spirit Power: The Best Of Johnny Marr’ in September and shared his new single ‘Somewhere’. Additionally, as part of the celebrations for his 10 years as a solo artist, Marr has announced two homecoming concerts in Manchester with 30-piece orchestra .

Manchester United player ratings vs Galatasaray as Bruno Fernandes good and Andre Onana poor
Man United drew with Galatasaray in the Champions League and here are how the players rated at RAMS Park in Istanbul.

- 19:37, 29 NOV 2023
- Updated 19:44, 29 NOV 2023

Manchester United's Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread after they drew with Galatasaray 3-3 in Istanbul.
United got off to the perfect start with a stunning goal from Alejandro Garnacho in the 10th minute. The 19-year-old celebrated by recreating Cristiano Ronaldo's 'calma' routine, winding up the Galatasaray fans in the process.
United's brilliant start continued, with captain Bruno Fernandes topping Garnacho's strike with an even better one of his own from distance. But Galatasaray hit back through a Hakim Ziyech free-kick before the half-hour mark.
ALSO READ: United have six players to build a new identity around
READ MORE: Mainoo gave United something they had not had all season
Scott McTominay extended United's lead after good work from Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the second half and Erik ten Hag introduced Kobbie Mainoo and Anthony Martial from the bench shortly afterwards.
But Andre Onana dropped a howler to allow Ziyech to score again after a free-kick to ensure a nervy finish and a wonder goal from Aktürkoglu left United bottom of the group and on the verge of elimination. Here are how the players rated...
Andre Onana
Hesitant before he carelessly conceded to his former Ajax teammate Hakim Ziyech and then dropped a clanger for the second. Too easily beaten for the third goal. 2
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Not dominated by Wilfried Zaha but did not dominate their duel, either. Showed composure to assist Scott McTominay. 7
Harry Maguire
Cleared one off the line with United 1-0 up but United were porous before Onana started letting them in. 6
Victor Lindelof
Prone to some meek moments and played United into trouble once in the first half. 6
Managed the game expertly and his deft flick set Bruno Fernandes on his run to score. Another encouraging performance. 7
Scott McTominay
Contributed to the first goal with a fine run down the right that invited teammates to run into space infield and he got on the scoresheet himself. 7
Sofyan Amrabat
A dubious recall at the expense of Kobbie Mainoo but his experience was beneficial while McTominay got forward for two of the goals. 6
Purposeful from kick-off and he had his best half in United colours. Not as influential in the second half but played a part in McTominay's goal. 7
Bruno Fernandes
Teed up Alejandro Garnacho to score and then slammed in a 25-yard screamer. Booked for a cynical foul and Galatasaray scored from the free-kick. Hit the post late on. 8
Alejandro Garnacho
Two goals in two games and this one should be just as pleasing. Garnacho botched a one-on-one against Luton but not this one. 8
Rasmus Hojlund
Contributed classily to Garnacho's goal by linking up with Fernandes and applied himself respectably until he came off. 6
Anthony Martial
A strange choice of substitute before the hour and United were worse with Martial on. Did not get a chance. 4
Kobbie Mainoo
Came on before the hour and the timing was premature but he was still so composed. 6
Diogo Dalot
Gave United energy going forward. 6
Facundo Pellistri
A rare cameo where he underperformed. Missed a great chance. 5
The recalls were largely vindicated but Ten Hag undid his good work with the ill-timed changes on 58 minutes and United became passive. 6

Manchester man sentenced to 20 years for drug trafficking, weapon possession

TRENTON - A Manchester man was sentenced Monday to 20 years in prison for drug trafficking and weapon possession, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced.
Dyshawn Moss, 42, was convicted on October 27 on five charges, including possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, Sellinger said.
On May 24, 2019, authorities went to arrest Moss outside of his apartment building in Manchester, according to Sellinger. Inside his apartment, Moss had over 1,000 grams of fentanyl, over 1,300 grams of heroin, over 2,600 grams of cocaine, drug-packaging materials, over $150,000 in cash and a 9mm Taurus handgun loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.
In addition to the prison term, Moss was sentenced to 10 years of supervised release, Sellinger said.

Maestro review – Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan make sweet music in dynamic Bernstein double act
Director and star Bradley Cooper captures the warring dualities of the great conductor-composer Leonard Bernstein, but it’s Carey Mulligan, as Bernstein’s wife, Felicia, who is on career-best form
C omposer and conductor Leonard Bernstein (Bradley Cooper, in a performance so expansive and exuberant that it easily upstages that controversial prosthetic nose ) was a man of contradictions. And for Cooper, in his second outing as a director (after A Star Is Born ), it’s this sense of perpetually warring sides to Bernstein’s psyche that proves to be central in his approach to this biopic. In a step up in terms of ambition and bravura, Cooper directs with a gusto and showmanship to match that of Bernstein at his most fevered and ecstatic. This style of film-making can feel overbearing and ostentatious, and as such it won’t be for everyone, but there is much to admire here – in particular Carey Mulligan’s career-best performance as Bernstein’s wife, the actor Felicia Montealegre – and, of course, the heart-swelling, all-consuming music that sweeps through the drama in waves.
With its nonlinear structure, Maestro feels a little like a scrapbook of life moments – glittering career achievements; crackling explosions of domestic tension – and Cooper keeps up a zesty, kinetic energy throughout. It’s another way in which Bernstein’s restless essence is captured in the storytelling. For the most part, though, the picture is all about the conflicting dualities at the heart of this complicated man, which Cooper smartly reflects in the contrast between black-and-white segments and the rich, saturated colour scenes; in the tight, boxy aspect ratio of the early scenes compared with the wide-open opportunities of later life; and in the framing that places Leonard and Felicia together in the same room but also worlds apart.
The most obvious example of duality in Bernstein is his sexuality. There’s no question that he loves his wife. The fact is emphasised from the outset, with one of the picture’s first scenes showing a widowed Bernstein opening his heart in a television interview and expressing his grief over her death. But he also desires and openly pursues a long list of young men, key among them a particularly close and poignant early connection with clarinettist David Oppenheim (Matt Bomer).
Elsewhere, there’s a contradiction in his professional persona, a conflict between his identity as a conductor – a showman to the hilt, giving everything to his orchestra and his audience, basking in their adoration – and his other, more introverted existence as a composer, cloistered away from the rest of the world. Bernstein is also, according to the film, prone to emotional polarities. At times consumed by giddy elation and at others by dark, debilitating despair, he’s portrayed as an effortlessly charming and outgoing public figure, and a guarded private one.
In the middle of this emotional combat zone is Felicia. To call her collateral damage in the battle between warring sides of her husband’s personality would be misleading. As played by Mullligan, Felicia is not a passive presence; she’s an equal partner in this story, taking front and centre stage along with Leonard. That’s not to say that she emerges unscathed from the marriage, which lasted on and off for more than 25 years.
One striking and lyrical moment – a shot that lasts for little more than a second or two – taps into the complexity of their relationship. Husband and wife are superimposed together in the same frame. Leonard’s figure dominates, presented as a huge, dark silhouette. The much smaller shape of Felicia, diamond-bright in her white cocktail dress, glows like a star in the centre of the frame. One reading of this image would be that Felicia exists in her husband’s shadow. Equally, it could be argued that the shot tells us that she is the light that guides him, drawing him away from his darker, self-destructive impulses.
But then perhaps the great love of Leonard Bernstein (apart from Leonard Bernstein) is the music. Cooper blurs the lines between home life and the stage through a slick editing technique reminiscent of Olivier Dahan’s Édith Piaf biopic La Vie en Rose . A scene showing rehearsals for the ballet that would become the movie On the Town unfolds into a fantasy sequence in which Leonard and Felicia dance together. The most powerful use of music, though, is an incredible extended sequence in which Bernstein conducts Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No 2 with a fervour that is exultant. It’s as though he is touched by God. And when he catches sight of Felicia, all but estranged from him at this point but transfixed by his passion, the differences between them fall away. The music, for both, is everything.
