A transcript keeps a detailed record of your grades or marks generated by your current or former university. It can be a document, either online or on paper, containing a list of the individual papers, modules, or courses you have done with a grade or score placed against each. Some transcripts contain the overall score you achieved in your studies. It is important to note that transcripts are required for both educational and career purposes.

Information Contained in a High School Transcript

High school transcripts have lots of information. It includes:

  • The name of every subject or class you took since joining the institution.
  • The grade or score you acquired in each class.
  • Information on your GPA (weighted and unweighted) is also provided.
  • If the institution does class rankings, your overall position is included.
  • Your attendance record and, if necessary, any disciplinary cases (e.g., suspensions).
  • In some cases, your honors/awards and standardized test scores.

Some employers, however, demand a more official document. The official transcript is usually issued by the school’s Registrar or Guidance office with an authorized signature or seal. This shows that the the form is authentic and genuine.

On the other hand, unofficial transcripts can be used as temporary placeholders while waiting for the arrival of the official transcript. These transcripts can still describe the coursework, academic standing, honors, disciplinary action, and how the course aligns with specific career paths and degrees. Unofficial transcripts come in handy mostly when a student hasn’t completed education or is waiting for final scores. It is the only way such students can show they are educated. When an unofficial transcript is requested, you can use a photocopy of your report card or download a copy of the available results. Ensure that it contains all the information on your coursework and grades.

How to Write a Transcript Request Letter

When writing a transcript request letter, you should use the standard formal letter format. The letter should be addressed to the specific university, institution, or school you wish to get the transcript. College transcripts are the closest thing a student has to a permanent record. They detail your academic history, including your grades, the courses you have completed, and whether or not you graduated. They may also list additional information, such as a history of academic probation, honor code violations, or awards for your school performance. 

Your transcripts can unlock academic doors. They’re key to transferring credits from one university to another and are the best way to verify your prior academic performance. Yet many students struggle to get their transcripts and don’t know how to ensure that their previous work follows them from one institution to another. If you’ve found yourself struggling to navigate this process yourself, here’s everything you need to know about transcripts before applying to a college degree program. 

What’s in a College Transcript? 

A college transcript is a detailed record of your previous schoolwork. It includes: 

  • A list of all classes you’ve taken. Depending on your school’s policies for dropping classes, it may also list classes you enrolled in but didn’t complete. 
  • The scores you received for all classes. Most transcripts include a number and letter grade. 
  • A list of dates attended and majors. The transcript will also list the dates during which you took certain classes. 
  • Grade point average. The transcript may also list your GPA as of your last semester of enrollment, or itemize a GPA for each semester. 
  • Student information. Depending on the information your school gathers, the transcript may also list your full name, date of birth, and student identification number. 
  • Other institutions. The transcript may list other schools you attended, as well as transfer credits you received from those schools. 
  • Official documentation. An official transcript also contains a seal, signature, or other official documentation indicating the document came from the registrar’s office.

Unofficial transcripts are free, and list the classes you’ve taken and the grades you’ve received. You usually have to pay a fee for official transcripts, which come directly from your school’s registrar. Most schools will not let you enroll without an official transcript.

How to Get a Copy of Your Transcript 

You can view an unofficial copy of your transcript by logging into your student account and printing out your history. This transcript is free. It can be helpful as you begin the application process, particularly if the school to which you apply wants a list of recent courses or needs to know your GPA before it receives your transcript. Your unofficial transcript may also help you assess whether you meet certain prerequisites for the classes you hope to take or the program in which you want to enroll. 

Most universities won’t accept an unofficial transcript. There are numerous reasons for this, including that an unofficial transcript may be incomplete. It’s also possible to forge an unofficial transcript. So at some point during the application and admission process, you’ll need to supply an official document. Each school’s rules for this vary slightly. Some only require an official transcript upon admission, while others want the transcript to be sent when you apply. 

To get an official copy of your transcript, contact your school’s registrar. In most cases, you don’t even have to call or go in person; the registrar’s office may have an online form for requesting your transcript. You can usually pay the transcript fee online too. If the school does not offer such a form, you may need to download and print the right document, then send a check. 

The process can take several weeks, so plan ahead. If you’re working under a tight deadline, contact the school to ask about transcript processing times. In some cases, you may be able to expedite the process by paying a transcript rush fee. 

If the school you attended has closed, you can still get a copy of your transcript. Each state has its own rules for accessing these transcripts, so check with the governing body that oversees your state’s colleges. In Oklahoma, students can view a list of closed colleges on the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education website . Each school lists the process for getting a transcript. Other states, such as Illinois, maintain transcripts at the office of the State Board of Higher Education . 

Do I Need a Transcript to Apply to College? 

Students who attended college many years ago or who did not get good grades the first time may wonder whether they need a transcript. Some may even prefer to get a fresh start rather than transferring bad grades to a new school. 

The truth is that even if your grades aren’t great, you need a transcript. Even a single transfer credit can help expedite your graduation. Perhaps more importantly, most schools require you to submit all relevant transcripts. It may even be an honor code violation to exclude a school.  

Where to Send Your Transcripts 

In most cases, you cannot pick up a copy of your transcript and take it to your new university. Instead, you’ll need your old school to directly send transcripts to the new school. This process can take some time, especially if you’re seeking a transcript from a larger school or your transcripts are very old. So contact each school as early in the application process as possible. 

Most schools ask you to provide a specific address to which to send your transcript. Your new school’s registrar can provide this information. Contact them before completing a transcript request, because sending a transcript to the wrong office can delay the process or incur additional expenses. Contact SNU’s Registrar Services or Admissions Office for help accessing transcripts or sending grades from previous schools. 

A Simple Checklist for Getting Your College Transcripts

Applying for college can be stressful and time-consuming, especially if you previously attended several schools. You don’t have to become a transcript expert to navigate the process. Just follow this simple to-do list: 

  • Check with the admissions office of your chosen school for details about their transcript policy. 
  • Make a list of each school you have previously attended, no matter how long ago or how briefly. 
  • Complete a transcript request form with each school. You can usually fill out the form online, and you may have to pay a small fee. 
  • If the school from which you need a transcript is closed, contact the organization that oversees higher education in your state. They can tell you how to get a transcript. 
  • Follow up with the school to which you are applying to ensure they receive each transcript. 
  • After they have received your transcripts, meet with an academic advisor to discuss which classes will transfer. In some cases, you may have to fill out a form to request that your classes transfer or to appeal a denial of transfer credit.

How Do You Request Your Official Academic Transcript?

Request your transcripts by contacting the Registrar's Office at your university. Stop by the office and you can complete a series of forms, pay fees, and you're on your way. Some institutions allow students to request transcripts online. Visit the Registrar's Office webpage to determine if your institution provides online transcript services.

What Do You Need to Request Your Official Academic Transcript?

Have the addresses for all the graduate schools to which you are applying on hand. You'll need to provide the Registrar's Office with each address. Be prepared to pay a fee for each transcript that you request, typically $10-$20 each.

When Do You Request Your Official Academic Transcript?

Regardless of whether you request your transcript online or in person, you must process your transcript order early, well before the admissions deadline. What many applicants don't realize is that the official transcript is sent directly from the Registrar's Office at their university to the graduate admissions offices of the schools to which they are applying. The Registrar's Offices of most institutions require at least 10 business days or about 2 weeks to send official transcripts. It’s a good idea to check with your university well beforehand to ensure that you request your official academic transcripts on time.

In addition, the admissions season is a very busy time, so it’s a good idea to request transcripts even earlier than the guidelines set by the Registrar's Office. Allow for time to resend the transcripts if necessary. Sometimes transcripts are lost in the mail. What is in your college transcript?   

Your college transcript is the official record of your college career. Depending on the school you attend, your transcript may include:

Personal information, like your name, birth date, and permanent address 

Information relevant to your school, like your ID number and the type of learner you are (undergraduate, graduate, etc.)

Major(s) and minor(s) 

Any degree you obtained from that school 

Dates that you attended the school 

Date that you graduated, if applicable 

Information that may be relevant to your specific school career, like whether you graduated with honors or the title of your thesis   

Classes you took, including those from which you withdrew before completing 

Grades received for each class and your grade point average (GPA) 

The semester for each class taken 

Academic status and any record of past issues, like academic probation or honors code violations 

Awards and accolades for your academic performance 

Why you might need your college transcript

Several scenarios may require you to obtain your college transcript, whether you've graduated or not. For example, if you're currently enrolled or a former learner who wants to transfer to another school, you'll need the transcripts from any school you've ever attended. Providing this document helps your new school verify your academic record for admissions purposes, and it will help your academic advisor determine which courses you still need for your degree. 

You'll also need a college transcript if you want to apply to graduate school to get your master's or doctorate or if you want to attend law school or medical school. The school you apply to will ask for a copy of your transcript from every undergraduate school you attended to verify that you obtained your bachelor's degree.

You may need a college transcript when you apply to specific jobs. While this is not as common, and many employers will take your word for it, they may want proof that you graduated. Some may even want to see your GPA, mainly if you apply for an entry-level job and have little previous work experience. Your GPA can serve as proof that you are a hard worker. Employers may also want to see your transcript to verify your skills and background, to determine if your area of expertise fits their needs, to understand how you deal with challenges, and to verify the claims on your resume.

Government agencies, in particular, may want to see a transcript. Keep that in mind if you apply to organizations like NASA or the US Department of State. You will also likely need a transcript if you attended college before joining the military.

How to get college transcripts 

The process of getting college transcripts will vary from school to school. Your school’s registrar's office is an excellent starting point. Usually, you can visit the school's website and make a formal request online. The registrar's office may require you to fill out some personal information, like your name, college ID number, social security number, address, email address, phone number, and the dates you attended the school. They may also allow you to have the transcript sent to another school or a potential employer, so you'll need their address and contact information. Some schools may even require that an official transcript go to a school or employer rather than directly to the learner. 

Some schools use third-party services, like Parchment or CertiFile, to deliver transcripts. You can typically find instructions for using these digital programs on the registrar's office's website. If your school doesn't offer an online option for ordering your transcript, you may need to submit a written request or visit in person. 

Remember that you'll typically have to pay a fee to get a copy of your official transcript. You can usually do this online, but the school may allow you to mail in a check instead. Receiving your transcript may take many weeks, so avoid waiting until the last minute to order your copies, especially if you have admissions deadlines.

Can a college withhold your transcript?  

If you provide the correct information and pay the fee, getting a copy of your college transcript is a fairly straightforward process. However, in the past, many schools could withhold your transcript if unpaid balances were owed to the school or if you defaulted on your student loans. That is now changing after the US Department of Education recently passed new regulations that prevent that practice. Starting July 2024, most schools will no longer be able to withhold transcripts from students who used federal financial aid to pay for course credits. Even if there was an unpaid balance on the account, those students can still receive their transcripts.

According to an October 2020 report from Ithaka S + R, roughly 6.6 million students have unpaid balances that would affect getting their transcripts [ 1 ].

Do you need an official or unofficial transcript?  

Both official transcripts and unofficial transcripts provide you with information about your college career, but they do have differences. You can usually go online to your school's website and print an unofficial transcript. An official transcript must come from the registrar's office and will have an official seal or signature to verify its authenticity. 

For career and educational purposes, it's generally best and often even required to use an official transcript. If you just want one for your records or to plan your next educational move, an unofficial transcript will usually work. However, you should be aware of the minor differences between the two.

You can use this form to seek an unofficial or official transcript from a high school, college, university, trade school, or another educational institution.

What Is a Transcript Request Form?

A transcript request form requests a student or former student’s academic history from an educational institution. The transcript includes their grades, the courses they’ve taken, and whether they have graduated.

In certain situations, you may be required to prove your academic history and enrollment in a school, and you will have to request an official academic transcript. It can be necessary when you are:

  • Applying to a new high school or college
  • Transferring schools
  • Applying to graduate or professional school (i.e., law or med school)
  • Applying for a job

Most universities and colleges require you to pay a fee when submitting a transcript request form. Before submitting your paper, check with your university or college’s registrar to know how much you should pay.

IMPORTANT: Unofficial vs. Official Transcripts

When you’re filling out a transcript request form, you can specify whether you want an official or unofficial transcript. Your former educational institution sends an official transcript in a sealed envelope directly to the organization that needs it. An official transcript also has the registrar’s signature. An unofficial transcript is simply for your records.

Include the following information in your transcript request form:

In addition to including the information above, you should also ensure the following is in your transcript request form:

Remember to keep these tips in mind when writing your transcript request letter:

  • Keep everything concise and straightforward. The body of your letter should be no more than three paragraphs.
  • Contact your school before writing the letter so you know what to include. For example, provide a check with your transcript request letter if your school requires you to do so.
  • Send your request form in a timely manner. Write and send your transcript request form as soon as possible to give your school time to process the request and send the transcript.‌

On the other hand, if you’ve asked for an official transcript, the school will send the transcript directly to your employer or school. Some postsecondary schools may require you to pay a small fee for requesting and sending out an official transcript. These fees are usually paid and processed online through the registrar’s office portal.

How long does it take to request a transcript?

How long a transcript request takes depends on the kind of transcript you’re requesting. For example, if your employer or prospective school accepts electronic transcripts, it may take a day for your current school to process your request for an electronic transcript. If you’re requesting a hard copy transcript, it may take up to a week for your school to process your request.

When will employers check my transcript?

An employer may check your transcript to verify your educational background if you’re applying for a high-level job that pays a lot of money. If you’re applying for an entry-level job that doesn’t have any significant educational requirements, an employer may choose not to check your transcript.

But when you’re applying for jobs , it’s not really important why an employer wants to see your transcript. Your goal is to provide a complete application as soon as possible. Here’s how to request official transcriptions and provide copies to prospective employers.

An official transcript is a list of the classes taken by a student, along with grades, and GPA (grade point average). A transcript will list all courses and grades received, majors, concentrations, any honors, and any degrees earned by a student. Most students can access an unofficial transcript on their school’s online portal, but most employers require a more official document.

An official transcript is typically issued by the school’s Guidance or Registrar’s office with an official seal or signature.

When employers require an official transcript, it must be requested by the student or alumnus and sent directly from the high school or college. The issuing institution will normally send it directly to the employer to prevent any potential tampering with the document. A transcript can be considered void or fraudulent if the seal is broken or opened before the employer receives it.  

High school students and graduates should contact the guidance office, and college students and graduates should contact the registrar to have an official transcript sent. Many schools require that alumni have no outstanding balances owed to the school. If there are, they reserve the right to withhold your official transcripts until the balance has been paid.  

Some schools require a written request before they will issue the document, but many offer an electronic alternative. Both ways of requesting may require the student to disclose proof of identity with signatures, Social Security number, student ID numbers, and dates of attendance.  

Official transcripts are usually issued with a nominal fee anywhere from $5–$30, excluding shipping, depending on the institution.  

Transcripts that have been handled by students or anyone in the absence of a seal or closed envelope are considered unofficial. Unofficial transcripts are printed on regular paper and are usually free and instantaneously accessible.

Unofficial transcripts can often be used as a temporary placeholder while waiting for the official transcript to arrive. These transcripts will still describe coursework and any transfer credits, academic standing, disciplinary action, honors, and how the coursework aligns with certain degrees and career paths. In the case of incomplete education or waiting for final scores, unofficial transcripts will list CIP (course in progress) to describe a course that has yet to receive a grade.

If an unofficial transcript is requested, it is acceptable to send a photocopy of a grade report or a downloaded copy of a transcript, as long as it contains all your coursework, grades, and GPA.

  • The company required an official transcript in addition to a copy of the degree to ensure that candidates had the appropriate background for the position.
  • John sent a copy of his unofficial transcript to the hiring manager as a proxy until the official transcript arrived.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) provides students with the right to access their education records, regardless of obstacles preventing them from obtaining them in person. Colleges and universities are required to provide students with a copy of their education records even if the student does not live in the area or is otherwise unable to visit the school in person.

Although many schools prefer that students submit a formal, in-person request for a transcript, FERPA requires them to mail or otherwise send education documents regardless of the student’s proximity. This copy, however, does not need to be an official transcript, and the law does not require that institutions send anything to third-party vendors or employers.

The idea of an academic transcript and having to get one may seem like an intimidating prospect to some, while others may not even know what they are, or why they can be useful. If you fall under the category of either of these, fear not! This article will explain what academic transcripts are, why they can be important and how you can get one worry-free.

An academic transcript is essentially a collection of documents that provide a summary of your academic achievements and educational history. This would include personal identifying information, such as your name, date of birth, etc., details of institutions you have studied at, and acquired grades. These can be obtained both digitally or as hard-copies, once they have been put together by an educational institution.

So, if you are interested in learning more about academic transcripts, their benefits and how to get them, this article will aim to do just that!

What are academic transcripts?

An academic transcript is a record summarising your educational achievements, grades, and institutions attended.

Academic transcripts can also come in various forms. For example, high school transcripts will summarise achievements in secondary education, including 11+, 13+, and GCSE qualifications. College and sixth form transcripts will contain information about A-level choices and results, while university and higher education transcripts detail degree achievements.

Being official records, academic transcripts are typically made by an institution’s registrar, who is responsible for organising these important documents and paperwork. This means that the transcript will have to be presented on institutional-letterhead, contain its seal or stamp, and be formally signed by an accredited member of the institution’s issuing team. After this, the transcript will then be sent by the institutions themselves, when a student wants to apply and start the admissions process for a different school, college or university. Alternatively, students can also choose to individually request their academic transcripts to directly send them themselves.

What is on an academic transcript?

An academic transcript will contain various details such as: personal details connecting your education history to your personal identification, details about the institutions you have studied at and details of what was studied at the institution and further information about this study.

It is, however, important to remember that there will be differences and not all transcripts will look the same. These differences may, for example, depend on factors such as:

  • Type of Institution – A secondary, sixth form, college or university will all have differences in the scope of information provided.
  • Country Preferences – international applicants may need to provide extra information for their qualifications to be recognised.
  • Personal Requirements of Individual Institutions – extra proof of language proficiency or certain capabilities.

Finally, it is important to again highlight that transcripts are official documents. So, for them to be accepted, they must have been made by the appropriate registrar, on institutional-letterhead, with a stamp or seal of approval from the issuing office, and have been signed by an appropriate member of the institution. These can be helpful to look at, since unofficial transcripts can be rejected or considered as transcript fraud.

For more information about transcript fraud, you can consider these guidelines from the University of London. In addition, any modification of a legitimate transcript, or forging of a fake one constitutes a violation of the 2006 Fraud Act , making it a legal offence and so, is heavily discouraged.

How can you get your academic transcript?

The easiest way to get your academic transcript is by directly requesting one from your institution of study. This should be your first point of contact. But, institutions will also make official academic transcripts available through a regulated system, which means they will be released within a specific time period or on a set date. This is usually different depending on the institution, so it is always best to check with them. However, after you have contacted your institution and figured out how they typically give out transcripts, you will be able to either access them online through a portal, via email, or have them sent as a hard-copy in the post.

Essentially, there are numerous ways of getting hold of your academic transcript, but not every institution offers all of these methods.

Getting your transcript by post

Institutions may give you the opportunity to get your academic transcript as a hard-copy in the post. To get your academic transcript by mail, start by going onto the institution’s website to find a section about requesting hard-copies of your transcript. Once you have done this, you will most likely have found a form that you will need to complete, where you provide your details and specify where the transcript should be sent. An example of what this form may look like can be found here from Imperial College London. After you have done this, the institution will process your request and mail the transcript to the address you provided.

Getting your transcript via online portal

Many institutions nowadays may also have the option of an online portal to use in order to get your academic transcript. To get your academic transcript this way, start by going to the institution’s website and finding the section about academic records. Once you have found this, you will most likely be redirected to an online portal that the institution uses to generate the transcripts, these may be Digitary CORE or Gradintelligence to access the HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report, essentially, your academic transcript). Here, you will need to log in with your student details and follow the steps to request the transcript. Some institutions may generate these online transcripts right away, while others take a bit more time, but you should soon receive your transcript in a digital format using this method.

Getting your transcript by email

Email remains a readily used means by institutions of providing academic transcripts. To get your academic transcript via email, start by going on your institution’s website to find the transcript request form. Here is an example of what this form may look like taken from Glasgow Caledonian University. Once you have found this, you will need to fill it out, specifying some details about yourself and providing where you would like the transcript emailed to. Some institutions may email you the transcript directly as a PDF document, while others might give you a secure link to download it.

Getting your transcript as an in-person pickup

In-person pickups are also an, arguably less used, but still possible means of getting your academic transcript. With this one though, it is best to start by contacting your institution’s registrar’s office or academic services department directly to ask about their in-person pick-up option. Once you have done this, they will most likely provide you with a form to fill out. After completing the necessary paperwork and providing your details, you will be told to come to a designated location on campus to pick up your transcript. Some institutions may offer immediate access, while others might have a specified timeframe for processing in-person requests, such as particular hours that are acceptable for pick-ups.

It is important to also be aware that some charges can also apply when getting your academic transcript.

Universities in particular may charge per copy requested. This will usually be between £15 – £25 per copy, however, these costs will vary depending on the university. Some specific examples and information about university fees for getting academic transcripts can be found on this website from King’s College London, and this one from the University of London.

When can you expect to get your academic transcript?

Typically, institutions aim to process transcript requests as quickly as possible, so the time can range from a few days to a few weeks. However, this timeframe still heavily depends on the specific institution. Academic transcripts are usually processed and released after the grading period is finalised for a specific semester or term. You will likely be given a more clear timeframe of when the transcript will arrive from your institution and depending on the method you have used for getting it.

Alternatively, if you are completing a graduate program at a university, for example, they may provide you with your academic transcript, along with other certifications, upon graduation.

There are, however, some potential challenges that can make the process of getting your transcript more complicated. For example, transcript requests may take time to process, and delays can occur, impacting deadlines for applications or other purposes. In addition, there is always the potential for communication problems or technical issues that can affect the timeframe for getting your academic transcript. Therefore, it is helpful to be aware that getting a transcript from an institution may take some time, so planning ahead and allowing sufficient time is advisable.

If there is a delay or you haven’t received your academic transcript within the specified time, your institution or the admissions office should be your primary contact.

When would you need an academic transcript?

Academic transcripts can be useful as proof of your academic achievements and educational progression. They are usually used by higher education institutions, so if you are planning to apply for these, make sure you remember that your academic transcript will be considered.

In most cases, higher education institutions will clearly state the need for an academic transcript in the admissions process, along with other required documents.

Higher education does not just refer to university though, if you are applying for internships, or going on to further studies, you will likely also need to present an academic transcript.

But, these situations are not the only times you might require your academic transcript. Since it summarises all your academic accomplishments, you might also need it when applying for visas or verifying your educational qualifications during background checks.

How can you submit your academic transcript?

An academic transcript can be presented to an institution, either digitally or as a hard-copy. When applying digitally, the online submission of academic transcripts is most commonly done via an online application portal system, as an allocated section in the application process, or through email to the admissions office.

Although digital methods are more commonly used to upload academic transcripts to institutions, some may still request a physical hard copy. If a physical copy is required by your institution, you will likely receive direct information during the admissions process or find details on the institution’s website outlining academic transcript requirements. Details on where to send physical transcript copies and the related procedures are probably outlined on the institution’s academic transcript section of their website. If not, reaching out to the admissions office is advisable for more guidance.

It is also important to be aware of any extra charges, like courier fees for shipping, especially for international applications.

Do potential employers check academic transcripts?

The short answer is: yes they can, but the odds are unlikely and it is highly dependent upon the employer and the position you are applying for.

It is not guaranteed that every employer will ask for or require you to present an academic transcript. In fact, in most cases, they will likely not request or check your academic transcript.

When applying for positions with potential employers you will most likely be required to present a CV, which will contain details regarding academic background and education. For most employers, this will be sufficient and they will not ask for an academic transcript proving the credibility of these achievements. In some cases, however, in order to verify that the information on your CV about your academic details is, in fact, true, they may request you provide an academic transcript as evidence of your CV claims.

You’ll receive an official academic transcript when you graduate. We will provide you a digital version accessible through My eQuals within 2 business days of your degree being conferred. 

If you'd like a transcript at another point during your studies you can purchase one showing your qualifications so far.

You can view a record of your units of study and results in Sydney Student, but this is not an official certified document. Go to ‘My studies’, ‘Assessments’ then ‘View your academic transcript’ for your course.

Make sure that your details are up to date

Your transcript will be issued to you using the details that you’ve provided to us in Sydney Student. Update any changes to your name or gender before submitting a request for your transcript.

Your transcript includes all units of study (attempted, completed or failed) and your grade for each unit. If you have been enrolled in more than one course, it lists all courses (including majors(s) and minor(s)) and all units studied at the University. It is not possible to separate degrees.

In late 2023, the University’s Academic Board decided to no longer publish weighted average marks (WAM) on final transcripts for most students. However, if you completed units in Semester 1 2020, your WAM and Converted WAM (CWAM) will still appear on your final academic transcript when you’re awarded.

Once your degree has been conferred, your transcript will also show a ‘final result’. This is not a mark average, but instead signifies that you have completed the requirements of your course.

  • If you’ve completed a bachelors degree, your final result will be either ‘pass’ or ‘honours’.
  • If you’ve completed a masters (coursework) degree, graduate diploma or graduate certificate, your final result will be ‘pass’ (if you commenced before 2011, you may also receive ‘pass with merit’).

What can I use it for?

Your official transcript can be used to demonstrate your qualifications or progress in your course so far. You might use it when applying for a job or to support applications for scholarships or further study.

It is also recognised by professional associations and government departments. For any hard-copy documents to be recognised by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) they will first need to be signed by an authorised staff member at the Student Centre .

If you are requesting a transcript for overseas registration of your qualification, you should contact your faculty or school before you submit your order so that you understand any specific requirements or processes.

Amalgamated colleges or pre-1981

If you’re requesting a transcript from amalgamated colleges or pre-1981, digital copies through My eQuals will not be available to you. Please allow 2-3 weeks for a request for a transcript to be processed.

Any results received from studying at an amalgamated college will appear on your transcript alongside results from further study at the University.

Students applying for study abroad and exchange

Ordering a transcript if you're a current student

If you have an active UniKey, you can order your digital or hard-copy transcript using our current student order form. 

Before you order be aware that:

  • results will not be included if they have not yet been released. You will need to wait until your  results are available  if you want these shown on your transcript.
  • if you have completed your course, your transcript will only show this once your course has been awarded and you have received your  completion letter .

Payments can be made by credit card are charged in Australian dollars. The payment will be non-refundable if your academic transcript has been issued.

Ordering a transcript if you were previously a student

If you don’t have an active UniKey, you will be able to verify your identity by providing your Student ID and the personal email address you had recorded in Sydney Student. If you need to update your personal email address with us, do so before requesting a transcript by contacting the Student Centre .

If you do not remember your Student ID or your personal email address as recorded in Sydney Student, you will receive an ID verification email with instructions on how to provide documentation to verify your identity.

You will be required to provide a copy of a valid personal photo identification with your signature visible, as it appears on an accepted form of personal identification (such as your driver’s licence or passport). Your request will not be processed if this is not included. Student cards, digital driver's licences, local library cards, Medicare cards, or birth certificates are not accepted.

Payment and processing times for previous students

Once we’ve received payment we will process your transcript.

We’ll send you an email containing a URL with instructions on how to access your digital transcript through My eQuals. This will be sent to your personal email address recorded in Sydney Student , so make sure that this is up to date.

Hard copies can be posted directly to your elected address or to a third party (such as a Registration Board or University). If required, transcripts can be sealed in stamped envelopes (under 'Options for your hard copy printed transcript', please select ‘Special Request’ ).

A maximum of 10 hard copy transcripts can be requested in your order, however only one delivery address can be entered. If you require hard copy transcripts to be sent to multiple delivery addresses, you’ll need to submit separate orders.

Transcripts and official letters

You can get an official academic transcript or letter to confirm details of your qualifications from UC. You might need this for an employment agency or prospective employers. Find out about transcripts and official letters from UC.

You can order a transcript/letter of eligibility to graduate or conferment of qualification using the  online order form .  

Please note that all students who have had a qualification conferred (legally awarded by UC Council) after 25 July 2018 will be issued a free digital transcript. This is only available once students have had a qualification conferred. If you require a copy of your transcript prior to having the qualification conferred, you will need to order and pay for a copy using the online order form. 

If you are enquiring about an education verification, please use our  Graduate Search function  in the first instance (Chrome is the best browser for this).

Please direct all enquiries to  Academic Records  or phone +64 3 369 5508. Orders for official academic transcripts and letters can be submitted via  Transcript/Letter Orders .  Please allow a minimum of 10 working days for your order to be processed.

If you have a debt with the University you should contact  Financial Services  (phone: +64 3 369 3431 ext. 93431) as soon as possible to clear the debt; Academic Records is unable to issue copies of your transcript when you have a debt sanction on your student record.

Once your debt has been resolved, please email  Academic Records  so your order can be processed.

An official academic transcript is a complete record of every year that you have been enrolled at UC. Transcripts are available in physical (paper) and digital formats that can be ordered and paid  here . All digital transcripts are issued via the  My eQuals  platform.

All students who had a qualification conferred  after 25 July 2018  will be issued with a  free digital copy  of their transcript and testamur (qualification certificate) via My eQuals.

Students whose qualifications were conferred prior to 25 July 2018 or who have  not yet graduated  will need to order and pay for a digital copy of their transcript.  Please note that we  cannot  provide digital testamurs for qualifications that were conferred prior to the implementation of My eQuals at the University of Canterbury (25 July 2018).

If you have had a qualification conferred (ie, you have graduated) since 25 July 2018 but you do not have access to My eQuals, please contact  Academic Records  or phone +64 3 369 5508.

Academic Records do not send digital transcripts directly out to other parties.  The way that My eQuals works, is that the documents are stored within a central repository in My eQuals, in which you have access to your personal, certified copies of documents. 

If you apply for a digital transcript, when we have processed your transcript order, you will get receive an e-mail from My eQuals containing a link and instructions on how to set up your My eQuals account to access your certified documents.   Please do not set up a My eQuals account prior to receiving the e-mail .  You should only do this once you receive the notification. 

Once you have set up your account, you can then share access to your documentation within My eQuals to another person or institution that accepts My eQuals.

Alternatively, we can send paper copies out to another person or institution.

An official transcript is different to the internal transcript that students can access via MyUC.

An official transcript  will  show:

  • Your full legal name and UC student ID number
  • The reason you were granted admission to UC (please note that this may include the year you were first eligible to attend University)
  • All courses and grades achieved whilst at UC; this includes failing grades for courses that you did not formally withdraw from
  • Qualifications completed
  • Qualifications awarded/conferred, and the date of conferral
  • Scholarships you have been awarded via the University Scholarships Office* 
  • Credits transferred from another institution**

An official transcript  will   not  show:

  • GPA values / calculations
  • Most notes that appear on your internal record
  • Courses from which you formally withdrew (these show as 'WD' or 'WDFR' in MyUC).

*Scholarships awarded by Departments/Schools or external institutions will not be shown on your official transcript.

**This will show a summary of the points you have been granted towards your qualification at UC. Some professional organisations/prospective employers may also require you to provide an official transcript from the “source” institution of the credit; this is  not  something that UC can provide.

Letter of Eligibility to Graduate keyboard_arrow_down

A letter of eligibility to graduate is  only  available after you have met the requirements for a qualification and before the qualification has been awarded. This letter cannot be written until your final grades have been officially released. You can choose to receive the letter in digital or hard-copy (paper) format. To order please go  here .

A Letter of Eligibility to Graduate states:

  • That you are eligible to graduate
  • When you completed the requirements of your qualification(s)
  • The majors and endorsements (if applicable)

Please note that Academic Records is not able to provide information about lecture attendance or hours of study.

A letter of conferment of degree is available  only  after a qualification has been awarded, which can be ordered and paid  here . You can choose to receive the letter in digital or hard-copy (paper) format.

A Letter of Conferment of Degree states:

  • when you completed the requirements of your qualification(s)
  • the majors and endorsements (if applicable)
  • the date(s) of the conferment/award of the qualification(s)

Grade Point Average (GPA) keyboard_arrow_down

UC does not have a formal class ranking system; however, some departments may be able to provide your ranking within some courses/programmes. You should contact the appropriate Department/School Administrator in the first instance.

The GPA is based on an average which is calculated by  multiplying a grade’s numerical value  by the points value for the course, adding these results together for all courses to come to the Grade Point Total which is then divided by the total number of points enrolled in.

This calculation is intended for internal purposes for the University. The University can, however, provide a letter that states your GPA and how this is calculated. To request a letter, email  Academic Records .

Replacement Testamurs keyboard_arrow_down

A testamur awarded by the University is a legal document and only one original may be in existence at a time. We cannot provide a copy of your testamur.

If you have a query about a replacement testamur, please email  Academic Records . If you are eligible for a replacement, there will be a fee of $120.

Please note that we cannot provide digital testamurs for qualifications that were conferred prior to the implementation of My eQuals at the University of Canterbury (25 July 2018).

The conferment of degrees is a matter of public record and degrees conferred by the University of Canterbury between 1980 and the present, and by the Christchurch College of Education between 1997 and 2006, can be verified online using our  Graduate Search.

Requests for information beyond what is accessible in the Graduate Search must be made in writing to  transcript@canterbury.ac.nz  and be accompanied by written authorisation from the graduate/student.

We will not provide additional information over the phone.

University of Canterbury is a signatory of the  Groningen Declaration  and as of 12th July 2018 will start provisioning digital official letters, academic transcripts and degree certificates via My eQuals, a secure online credentials service widely used by New Zealand and Australian Universities.

Students who have passed courses enrolled against a Certificate of Proficiency (COP) that have not been, and will not subsequently be, credited towards a formal qualification of any University, can order a transcript.  

The transcript details the course codes, titles and grades of courses completed. You can choose to receive the transcript in digital or hard-copy (paper) format, which can be ordered and paid  here .

University letters of recommendation: an essential guide

Letters of recommendation can make or break a student’s university application, so it’s important that we get them right

There are a plethora of documents that go into compiling the perfect college application. From transcripts to predicted grades, activity lists, resumés or CVs, essays, recommendation letters, certificates and more – each element of the application holds a different purpose and separate weight of importance, often varying from country to country and university to university.

By the senior year (Year 13), academics are nearly finalised, so there’s little wiggle room when it comes to improving that element of the application: senior GPA is set and calculated; IB predictions are nearly issued.

But beyond academics, some universities require recommendation letters, and this is where a student can stand out more, highlighting and emphasising their skills, qualities and abilities. 

These recommendation letters can sometimes illuminate the true heart and soul of the student, beyond their transcripts or personal-statement essay. The words in these letters can make or break a student’s application, so it’s important we get them right and tell their story with the thought and effort it deserves. 

Teacher letters of recommendation

In a teacher’s recommendation letter, students are brought to life beyond their grades, showcasing their holistic potential.

Teachers seize the chance to praise consistent academic excellence, to spotlight specific projects or skills, and to contextualise grade fluctuations resulting from personal circumstances.

These letters illustrate growth, revealing students’ readiness for university life. The emphasis is on articulating acquired skills and potential – a narrative far more impactful than grades alone. While an A-grade student may excel in tests, a B-grade student might exhibit invaluable traits, such as grit and resilience, best articulated through personalised advocacy.

Recommendation letter timelines

To support students and teachers, it’s important to highlight the importance of the teacher recommendation letter early on to teachers and students alike. Let students know as early as grades 10 and 11 (Years 11 and 12) that it’s important to build relationships with teachers well in advance of senior year. The best letters come from those teachers who have an excellent rapport with the student in question.

Ask students in the spring of junior year (Year 12) to select those teachers they would like recommendation letters from. The recommendation should ideally come from a core-subject teacher (maths, science, social studies, English) rather than an elective teacher, unless the elective is a field in which they intend to pursue a career.

To support the teachers, we work with students to compile what we call a brag sheet. Students answer a series of questions about themselves, in order to give the teacher the best context for writing the letter.

We tell teachers that if the student does not provide this brag sheet, or if they feel that the student has not performed well enough in their class to deserve a letter, they are allowed to respectfully decline the request to write the letter.

We also remind teachers that they do not need to agree to write any more than 20 letters. It is unfair if students all ask one teacher – who may then end up writing 60 letters – for a recommendation letter, while other teachers only have to write a few.. With that in mind, we also remind students of the importance of being organised and requesting the letter from their preferred teacher early on.

Writing the letters

Here are some examples of the questions we ask students on their brag sheets, which then give teachers a starting point for their letters:

  • What do you hope this letter will show about you that your GPA doesn’t?
  • What was a challenge that you faced in this class, and what actions did you take to overcome it?
  • Describe how this class influenced you, either through academic content or teacher interaction.
  • Give between one and three examples of times when you have exceeded expectations with your communication skills, and also some areas where you can reflect that you may need growth.
  • What majors or careers interest you?

To support the teachers further, we host a writing workshop in the spring of each year to give them examples of strong and weak letters (all confidential). We coach them in "show, don't tell" when it comes to writing about students’ strengths, as well as giving them concrete examples of how best to advocate for students and highlight their strengths.

We review what each different country’s universities desire from these letters, as some universities – such as the US – appreciate a holistic view of the student (for example, highlighting student athletes or detailing extracurriculars). By contrast, the UK is very academic-focused and prefers to read about the student’s abilities when working on class projects, research and outside endeavours in the field of study.

Counsellor recommendation letters

Some universities – mostly in the US – also allow a counsellor letter of recommendation. This letter goes beyond academic ability in the classroom and speaks more to students’ characteristics, personality, outside involvement and external factors helpful for an admission committee to review in the context of other application documents.

The counsellor’s role is to fill in the missing pieces of an application: we help identify and tell a student’s story, covering any hardships, exceptional leadership abilities, impressive commitment to community and so on.

Now more than ever, admission committees are telling us that they trust the counsellor and teacher letters to help give them the full picture of a student, and to help them judge whether or not they will be the best fit for their incoming class and able to thrive on their campus.

We send our students what we call a junior questionnaire, in order to collect the information necessary to write these letters successfully.

Some examples of the questions on the junior questionnaire:

  • What languages do you speak, and to what level of fluency?
  • Please provide some details about your family and highlight any diversity and/or adversity that you have experienced. 
  • Have there been any major circumstances that have impacted on your personal or academic life? 
  • What are three adjectives you would use to describe yourself? Think deeply about this one. 
  • How have you used your time outside of school, and can you elaborate on any particular projects, clubs, work experience, internships, or volunteer work that speaks to consistency in an activity, leadership experience or a particular commitment to have an impact on your community?

External letters

Sometimes students may wish to have an outside recommendation letter from a coach – for example, if they are a student athlete.

Overall, references should be academic-focused, but some universities that accept more than one letter are willing to receive one from an outside observer, too. In these cases, the person should be someone who oversees the student as the coach of a sport or the supervisor of an internship or work-experience programme.

The external referee should give this letter to the counsellor to send off on their behalf, as all recommendation letters must confidential and never shared with the student.

How to Apply

Baker program in real estate application guide, application deadlines.

Plan to apply early. International applicants are encouraged to apply during one of the first three rounds.

*In order to have your application fee waived, please email us when your application is complete and ready to submit. Please include: 1) Your name; 2) The statement, “I intend to complete the admission requirements and submit my application by December 1, 2023;”. We will respond with an email that includes a unique fee waiver code that has been assigned to your application. 

The application will be available September 15 via ApplyWeb , the Cornell Graduate School’s online application system. The application can be completed in one session, or can be saved and returned to in subsequent sessions. All required materials must be received in order for your application to be reviewed and considered for admission . You may track the status of your application materials through your ApplyWeb account. A nonrefundable application fee* of $105 must be submitted with your online application. Payment must be made with either an e-check in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank, or a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover credit card.

*An application fee waiver may be requested if you meet the following criteria:

  • You submit your complete application prior to the round one deadline
  • You are a current or former United States military member
  • You are a current Cornell student or a recent Cornell alum and have graduated within two years of your application date

What You Need to Apply

In addition to the requirements outlined by  the Graduate School , the Baker Program has the following requirements:

Academic Statement of Purpose

Please use the Academic Statement of Purpose to describe, within 500 words: (1) your academic interests, (2) your academic background, preparation, and training, including any relevant professional experiences, (3) your reasons for pursuing graduate studies in this specific program, and (4) your professional goals.

Personal Statement

Please describe (within 300-500 words) how your background and experiences influenced your decision and ability to pursue a graduate degree. Additionally, provide insights into your potential to contribute to a community of inclusion, belonging, and respect where scholars representing diverse backgrounds, perspectives, abilities, and experiences can learn and work productively and positively together.

Video Interview

After you submit your application, you will be sent an email invitation to complete a video interview, where you will be asked to give short verbal responses to pre-recorded questions. Note, an invitation to the video interview will be sent automatically after submitting your application. Please monitor your inbox carefully as your application will not be considered complete until the video interview is submitted. The video interview is designed to assess your fit for the program and your communication skills. We advise that you use the most up-to-date version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge to complete the video interview.

Academic Transcripts

Successful applicants will have received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Please submit transcripts from all colleges or universities you have attended. Be sure to redact, cross out, or cover your Social Security Number if it is displayed on your transcript. You may submit unofficial transcripts with your application; however, should you be admitted into the program, we will request an official copy for verification.

  • All courses you have taken
  • Grades received in each course
  • Degree and the date it was conferred

Competitive applicants to the Baker Program in Real Estate will have completed coursework in the following subjects prior to enrollment:

  • Microeconomics
  • Financial Accounting

For students who have not taken a microeconomics or financial accounting class, the prerequisites can be satisfied before matriculation (before the first day of the program). If you have questions about your credentials, please feel free to email the Office of Admissions .

  • Submit unofficial transcripts from all colleges attended. If your transcript is not in English, please submit an official and certified English translation in addition to an original copy. World Education Services (WES), can provide this service. Transcripts should indicate all courses you have taken, grades received in each course, degree name, and date the degree was conferred. Candidates who are admitted and enrolled are required to provide the corresponding official transcripts before matriculation.

Two Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are required for your application. At least one should be from a current or recent supervisor who can attest to your work-related skills. The second may be from either an academic or professional source. In the application, select the “online” option for your recommenders to receive an emailed invitation to submit their letters. You will be required to enter the email or street address of your recommenders as you complete this portion of your application.

You are encouraged to request recommendations from people who are well acquainted with you and your professional capabilities. It is your responsibility to ensure that all recommendations are submitted online by the deadline for the round in which you are applying.

Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Records Examination (GRE)

A GMAT or GRE test score is a required component of the Baker program application.  The GMAT or GRE is one way to demonstrate quantitative competency and English language proficiency to the admissions committee in our holistic review process.

There is no minimum score requirement to apply to the Baker program. If you completed the GMAT or GRE more than once, we will use the exam with the highest total score.

The Baker program will accept the GRE General Test at Home, the GMAT Online Exam, and the GMAT Focus for the fall 2024 cycle.

GMAT or GRE scores are valid for five years.  The Baker program requires that scores be valid on the deadline of the application round in which you apply.

Submitting a Score

GMAT scores should be sent electronically using www.mba.com . Use code 5811 when filling out the GMAT registration.

GRE scores should be delivered by ETS ( www.ets.org ). All official test scores should be reported directly to Cornell University’s institution code  2098 . Department codes are not needed for matching scores to applications. If ETS requires you to select a department code, you may choose “0000 undecided.”

You may submit an unofficial score report for your application review; however, if you are accepted and intend to enroll, your official score report must be received by your enrollment deposit deadline.  It is an applicant’s responsibility to contact the testing service directly and authorize the release of the official score report.  Offers of admission are not binding until we verify your official academic records and test scores.

Waiver Request

Candidates who demonstrate analytical and quantitative abilities through academics or work experience may request a waiver from the GMAT or GRE test requirement. The waiver request option is in the application.

  • An academic waiver request must refer to specific completed courses on the submitted college transcript (e.g. microeconomics, finance, accounting, calculus, and statistics with regression).
  • Work experience waiver requests must include a description of the nature of work, and one of the two required letters of recommendation must come from a current supervisor who specifically addresses the quantitative/analytical nature of your work.
  • Waiver requests based on other personal circumstances are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

If you plan to request a waiver, we encourage you to submit your application in advance of the application deadline.  You can expect a response to your waiver request within 7 business days via email. If your test waiver is not approved, your application will remain incomplete until a test score is submitted.

Applicants granted a waiver will not be disadvantaged in the application review process.

Information for International Students

All international applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the English language by submitting official TOEFL or IELTS scores. The Baker Program in Real Estate does not accept My Best Score reports for the TOEFL examination and requires applicants to meet the minimum sub-scores in speaking, reading, listening and writing set by the Cornell Graduate School.

In some cases, these testing requirements can be waived. For more information on score minimums, how to submit test scores, and the criteria for waiving the requirement, please visit the  Graduate School’s website .

  • Cornell must receive official TOEFL or IELTS scores before the university can process your application.
  • TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid only if dated within two years of your program’s application deadline.

For applicants in regions where the TOEFL iBT is not available, Cornell will continue to accept scores for the paper-based test (PBT).

  • Please request TOEFL scores to be sent to: Cornell University Graduate School,  Code #2098 . If you are required to take the TOEFL, please note the following:
  • Photocopies of TOEFL score reports will not be accepted.
  • Take the TOEFL early enough to have the results submitted at the time of your application. Please note that we cannot confirm receipt of test scores until the student has submitted an online application. Exam dates are posted on the  TOEFL website .
  • If you receive your test results and any sub-score does not meet the requirement, you should make arrangements to retake the test. If your TOEFL score does not meet the requirement, we cannot issue a visa document, and you will not be able to enter the country.
  • An application cannot be considered complete until Cornell receives official scores from ETS. An offer of admissions cannot be made, nor can a visa document be issued, if an application is incomplete.

The Graduate School requires an overall band score of a 7.0 or higher on the IELTS.

  • When you register for the exam, you may select up to 5 institutions to which you would like to have your scores sent. Cornell University has multiple IELTS accounts so please be sure to select  Cornell University Graduate Admissions  when registering for your IELTS test date.
  • You may also submit a request to your test center to have additional score reports sent to institutions not originally listed on your test registration form. Scores must be sent electronically (e-delivery) to the  Cornell University Graduate Admissions, Caldwell Hall  e-download account. E-delivery may also be referred to as an e-TRF by your test center.
  • The IELTS score must be dated within  two years of your program’s application deadline . Scores must be delivered electronically through the IELTS E-Delivery service.
  • International students may also be required to pass a writing benchmark. All of our classes are in English and require participation in class discussions, as well as intensive writing, reading, and involvement in group projects. Successful candidates will have a full command of both spoken and written English. Even if your TOEFL score exceeds the minimum requirement, you may still be required to enroll in an intensive English course, preferably in the United States, before you begin the program.

Dual Real Estate Degree Candidates

Applicants to the  dual-degree program must apply separately to both the Baker Program for the MPS-RE and the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP) for the MRP.

Each college or school makes its admissions decisions independently. The Baker Program is not responsible for other college’s requirements and does not have access to information pertaining to those application files.

To be accepted and enrolled in a dual-degree program, students must:

  • Meet each program’s application deadline and fulfill all admissions requirements (admissions decisions are made independently by each program)
  • Accept admittance to both programs, and submit any required tuition deposits
  • Submit GMAT score reports, transcripts, and TOEFL, if needed, to each program

Requests to enroll as a dual-degree student must be declared on the initial application to the Baker Program. Students not admitted to a dual-degree program upon initial enrollment in the Baker Program must complete the MPS-RE degree requirements before enrolling in any other degree program at Cornell.

Students already enrolled in the MRP program may still apply to the Baker Program and, upon admission, be formally admitted to the dual-degree program.

Program Prerequisite(s)

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Licensure subject matter knowledge verification
  • Completed course in child development with a grade of B or better, or Massachusetts initial licensure in another area

Please note that, in some cases, students may be accepted into the program without having completed the prerequisites stated above. These students will be required to develop an advisor-approved plan for completion of equivalent courses.

Application Components

Use our online application to apply for admission. Once you have completed and submitted your application, you will be provided access to an online Application Status Portal where you will be able to monitor your application checklist, provide required supplemental documentation, and ultimately receive your admission decision.

Written Teaching Statement

The purpose of the teaching statement is to provide the admission committee with a reflective account of your personal beliefs, skills and experiences in relation to teaching. You will be required to submit a written statement that addresses the prompts below in a narrative statement. For more information, please see the Written Teaching Statement tab of your application. 

  • your beliefs/values about learning and education
  • skills and attributes you possess that would make you a successful educator
  • the role of social justice, equity, diversity and inclusivity in educational environments
  • your goals and how graduate study at Stonehill will help you to achieve them

Recommendations (2)

We require two (2) recommendations from academic and/or professional references, such as former or current college/university faculty members with deep familiarity with your academic work or your current or former employers/supervisors. These references will be provided access to an online recommendation form. A letter of recommendation will be optional. For more information, please see the Recommendations tab of your application.

Resume/Curriculum Vitae

We require that you include an updated resume and/or Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) as part of your application for admission. For more information and to upload your document, please see the Resume/Curriculum Vitae tab of your application.

Academic History and Official Transcripts

In order to complete our review of your application for admission, we must have access to official transcripts for any and all degrees you have earned, both undergraduate and graduate. For more information, please see the Academic History tab of your application.

Foreign Credential Evaluations 

If you earned a degree from an institution located outside of the United States, we will require a foreign credential evaluation. Please request an official, course-by-course transcript evaluation report from a NACES-accredited education evaluation service , and have that evaluation sent to Stonehill College. Unofficial transcripts cannot be accepted .

Other Application Components

Standardized tests.

We do not require standardized test scores for admission into our graduate programs but strongly encourage applicants to licensure programs to upload completed MTEL score reports.  Applicants may also submit official scores for GRE, GMAT or other standardized tests via the testing agency in support of your application for admission if you feel the scores would provide positive context for your candidacy.

Proof of English Proficiency

If English is not your native language, we may require proof of English proficiency via the  Test of English as a Foreign Language  (TOEFL) or  International English Language Testing System  (IELTS). In order to ensure sufficient preparation for the academic challenge of our graduate programs, Stonehill will seek to admit candidates with a TOEFL score of 90 or greater or an IELTS of 6.5. Additionally, the College will consider candidates sub-scores to assure sufficient preparation among all measures of English proficiency.

  • Applicants who have received or will receive a degree from an accredited university in the United States will not be required to provide proof of English proficiency.
  • Applicants who have received or will receive a degree from an accredited university abroad where English is the sole language of instruction will not be required to provide proof of English proficiency. Applicants in this category must provide an official letter of verification from the university that English is the sole language of instruction, along with the applicant's date of graduation (or anticipated date of graduation for those who are still working on their bachelor's degree). Failure to provide an official letter of verification will mean that proof of English proficiency will be required for admission. 
  • Applicants from countries where English is the sole official language of instruction (Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Canada-except Quebec, Ghana, Ireland, India, Jamaica, Kenya, New Zealand, Nigeria, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad, Tobago, Uganda, and United Kingdom - England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales) will not be required to provide proof of English proficiency.

Other Term (Dates Vary)

Other Term classes are not held during a regular term session. They are typically short-term classes that meet for just a few days or weeks.

The deadline to add an Other Term class via eServices is the first day of the class. To enroll in an Other Term class after the first day of class, you must go to the Admissions and Records office within the first week of the class.

Deadline dates are calculated based on mandated formulas directed by the State of California and the Education Code (Title 5).
