500 Words Essay on My Favourite Weather

Introduction to my favourite weather.

Everyone has a type of weather that they like best. For me, my favourite weather is when the sky is blue, the sun is shining, and there is a gentle breeze in the air. This kind of weather makes me feel happy and full of energy. In this essay, I will tell you why I love sunny and breezy days the most.

The Joy of Sunshine

The sun is like a bright, friendly smile in the sky. When the sun is out, it lights up everything around us. It makes the leaves on the trees look green and alive, and it makes flowers look like they are glowing with colors. I love how the sun warms my skin when I am outside. It feels like a cozy blanket on a chilly day. The sun also helps us get vitamin D, which is important for our bones and health.

The Cool Breeze

Even though I love the sun, I don’t like it when it gets too hot. That’s why a gentle breeze is the perfect thing to go with a sunny day. A breeze can cool you down when you start to feel warm. It’s refreshing, like a sip of cold water on a hot day. The wind also makes the trees sway and the leaves rustle, which sounds like music to me. It’s fun to fly kites or watch birds glide on the wind when it’s breezy.

Perfect Weather for Playing

Sunny and breezy weather is the best for playing outside. You can run around without getting too hot or too cold. It’s great weather for sports like soccer or baseball. When it’s nice outside, my friends and I can play in the park all day. We can have picnics, go on bike rides, or just lie on the grass and look at the clouds. There’s so much to do when the weather is just right.

Good for Nature

This weather is not just good for people; it’s good for nature too. Plants need sunlight to grow, and the breeze helps spread seeds and pollens to make more plants. Animals enjoy the weather as well. You can see squirrels running around and birds singing in the trees. It’s like the whole world is happy when the weather is sunny and breezy.

In conclusion, my favourite weather is when it’s sunny with a light breeze. This weather makes me feel cheerful and active. It’s perfect for playing outside and enjoying nature. I love how the sun and the wind work together to create a beautiful day. For me, there is nothing better than a bright, breezy day to make me feel great.

Essay on My Favourite Season Winter

Winter is the best of all seasons and I like this season the most. December, January and February are the three winter months. The weather at this time is very pleasant. In this season we can work hard but do not get tired. We put on warm clothes and enjoy the bright sunshine. The nights are very cold. The night in a warm bed under a quilt is very comfortable.

Paddy is harvested in this season. Colourful seasonal flowers grow in gardens. Fish, vegetables and fruits are also available in plenty in this season. They are very cheap also. This is the most suitable time for holding picnics in the open air. We can go out and hold excursions in winter.

Various types of fairs are held and festivals like Saraswati Puja, Christmas, and New Year’s Day are celebrated in this season. While we enjoy the cool comfort of the winter, the poor people suffer a lot during these months. They do not have warm clothes to protect them from cold. Overall I love this season very much.

My Favourite Season Summer Essay

Of all the six seasons, my favourite season is summer. It is the hottest season of the year. The summer season starts in March and ends in June. In this season the sun shines brightly. The best part of this season is summer vacation. This is a great relief from a hectic schedule, home works, and exam pressure. I enjoy the vacation by going to a beach or a hill station with friends and families. In summer I like to have cold drinks, lassi, ice cream, and coconut water.

We get many fruits in this season like mango, watermelon, litchi, jackfruit, pineapple etc. Many festivals such as charak puja, Rama Navami, Baisakhi, Rabindra Jayanti, etc. are celebrated in this season. There are varieties of fruits and vegetables available during this season. Many beautiful flowers like Lilly, Marigold, Roses, Dahlia, and Sunflower bloom in this season. Summer is just a wonderful season with so much fun and enjoyment.

My Favourite season Rainy Season

The season I like most is the Rainy season or monsoon. In India, this season begins in mid-June and ends in early September. Rainy season comes after the scorching heat of summer season and gives us relief. Clouds float here and there in the sky. Lightning and thunder occur frequently. People can be seen with umbrellas and raincoats. Dry rivers and lakes become full.

Farmers plough their fields. Children become very happy. They make paper boats and dance in the rain. A variety of fruits, vegetables, and crops grow in this season. Beautiful flowers blossom in this time. Beautiful rainbows can be seen in the sky.  This season brings a lot of festivals like Raksha Bandhan, 15th August, Teej, Janmashtami, etc. We can enjoy various types of dishes in the rain.

But sometimes heavy rainfall brings the flood. Flood causes many to lose their lives, houses, and livelihood. On the other hand, if there is no rainfall for a long time, drought can occur. This causes extensive damage to crops. So, the Rainy season is an important season for us.

My Favourite Season Autumn Essay

During the rainy season, the sky remains overcast with clouds. Rains fall continually. But, with autumn, the clouds are no more. A deep blue sky spreads, like a deep blue sea. The white patches of clouds float like little fairy boats.

The day looks golden with the sun shining. The night has a silvery moon, with its silvery luster. The millions of stars, too, sparkle. Now and then, rain begins to fall thick and fast. But then suddenly the rain stops and, again, a deep blue sky smiles. In autumn, the rivers are full to the brim. The fields are all green and golden with crops. Men and women are busy among them, reaping the harvest. Nature and man seem to unite in one mood of peaceful gladness. Autumn is my favourite season.

Talk About Your Favourite Weather. You should say:

  • What kind of whether it is
  • When this weather usually occurs
  • What you usually do during this weather

Sample Answer

I am an absolute nature lover and am always awestruck by the natural phenomena that change every now and then. It has always been a matter of intrigue for me. However, besides being beguiled by the complexity of these phenomena, something that I am even more interested in is the variety in seasons and weather and especially the weather that we have in the spring season. I am quite a balanced personality myself and in that case, I love everything which is just balanced well and is not extreme at any end. Therefore, the weather where there is not too much scorching heat and not too much blood-chilling cold is what I love the most.

This kind of weather only actuates in the spring season around Feb-March, and honestly, that is the reason why these months are one of my favourite as I do not have to be fidgeted about wearing too many clothes or worrying about the heat rash that I generally get given the fact that I am sensitive to heat.

Usually, there is nothing peculiar or eccentric that I do or, for that matter, I don’t have any planned endeavours to do in this particular weather. However, it has got more to do with my comfort and composure that I could live my life smoothly in this particular weather.

Meaning: process Eg.: These phenomena are really interesting and beautiful.

Meaning: to be surprised by something you find interesting. Eg.: I was awestruck at the beauty of that bird.

Meaning: interest g.: Nature can often intrigue you by any of its aspects.

Meaning: worried about something Eg.: I fidgeted about the result as I didn’t perform well in the exams.

Meaning: special/unique Eg.: I don’t think there are any peculiar features of this building.

Part 3 Questions

How does the weather (or the weather forecast) affect the activities people do.

The weather decides the fate of a lot of activities. For instance, if we plan to go for an excursion, rain could ruin the plans. Also, weather forecasts can prognosticate the weather of a particular day well in advance and in that way, it becomes a lot easier for us to determine our plans for the day and whether to execute our plans or not.

Why do some people dislike some kind of weather?

It highly depends upon the persona of a person. For example, some might love when it drizzles, while some might completely despise rain. Similarly, some might like basking in the sun, while some might not like to tan. Hence, it has more to do with personal preferences.

Do you think the weather has an influence on people’s moods?

I guess yes, it does. To illustrate, people might not want to step out of their homes when it is too sunny to handle and this way, some might get irksome and tetchy as they could not execute some crucial action. Also, pleasant weather generally casts a soothing effect on the minds of people.

How do you feel about the climate in recent years?

Well, the climate has been going haywire in recent years. It seems as though the word ‘balance’ has lost its true meaning. The most unexpected weather comes to the fore when it is highly unlikely to come. I believe humans are culpable in this regard.

Meaning: trip Eg.: I am interested in going on the excursion you all are planning to go on.

  • Prognosticate

Meaning: to predict Eg.: The sage prognosticated the fate of that man years ago.

Meaning: sprinkles of drops Eg.: I love the drizzle, though I don’t like when it heavily rains.

Meaning: explain Eg.: They illustrated the lectures well.

Meaning: disorganised Eg.: I was going haywire with my schedule.

Feature image of Short Essay on My Favourite Season

My favourite season of the year is summer. It begins in April and ends in June. During the summer season, days are long and nights are short. The skies are clear and the sun is bright. We get month-long summer vacation and can stay at home with our parents and family without having to worry about school. We usually go to visit our grandparents in the village during the summer season.

In the village, I get the opportunity to play with the neighbourhood kids in mango and guava orchards that surround my grandparents’ place. They teach me new games and I always have a great time with them. Summer is also the season of mangoes. We get to eat so many varieties of juicy, delicious mangoes.

My favourite season of the year is winter. The Winter months are very cold as the temperature drops low. It also snows in the northern, high-altitude parts of the country. We wear a lot of warm clothes and eat hot foods to keep us warm. Our metabolism increases during the winter season and thus, we can eat a lot of delicious food. Hot drinks like tea, coffee and hot chocolate are also welcomed.

During the winter season, we usually go on a week-long vacation to hill stations to enjoy the snow. I make snowmen with my parents and siblings and go ice staking as well. There, at night, we create small bonfires to warm ourselves and chit-chat with each other. Winter is also the season of festivities as we celebrate Diwali, Christmas and New Year in winter.

My mother always bakes cakes for us on Christmas and they are warm and delicious. When I don’t have school, I like staying in bed covered in a thick quilt and reading my favourite storybooks. I also go out to play cricket and badminton with my friends every afternoon as it warms my body and keeps me active. Due to the cold weather, we don’t sweat much and can play for a long time. Because of all these reasons, I like the winter season.

Out of the four predominant seasons, my favourite is the monsoon or the rainy season. It starts to rain heavily all over the country by July. As it rains, the water washes away all the dust from plants and trees, making them look green and beautiful again. As the rain hits the dried-up ground, the smell of wet earth fills the atmosphere and makes our hearts dance.

New seedlings begin to sprout and grasses and plants begin to grow all around us. Our surroundings are covered in green and look very mesmerising. As India is an agricultural country, the rainy season is very important for us. Rains irrigate fields and help crops grow. Without rain, most of our major crops will fail, causing loss of business and even starvation. As my grandparents and uncles are farmers, I have experienced the joy that the rainy season brings to farmers very closely.

I also like the rainy season because when it rains heavily, I do not need to go to school. Sometimes, even my parents take leave and then our whole family gets to enjoy the day together. My mother makes delicious fritters with tea which we enjoy while playing board games like ludo and carrom. My father is very fond of flowering plants and we have a lot of plants in our garden. During the rainy season, our garden looks majestic with hundreds of blooming flowers in many different colours.

My friends often come over to my house and we enjoy playing in the garden when the rain stops. We make paper boats and put them in water puddles. Sometimes, we also compete to see whose boat would go farther. Sometimes our parents allow us to go outside when it is raining and then, we enjoy jumping in puddles, getting drenched and playing in rain. It is very fun to play in the rain. After that, my mother makes hot soup for us to warm us up.

When it rains at night and electricity is cut, we get to enjoy our food in candlelight. After dinner, we go straight to bed and tell each other ghost stories. I and my siblings always try to scare each other. When it rains for days, I like to sit by the window and read my favourite books while watching the rain. The rainy season is very special for me and when it ends in September, I wish for it to come quickly next year.

So hopefully, after going through this session, all your confusion regarding this topic has been cleared. Post your doubts if you have any, in the comment section below. I will try my level best to address your queries. Keep browsing our website for more such content.

essay on favourite weather

Describe your favourite weather

What kind of weather it is?

When this weather usually occurs?

What you usually do during this weather?

Explain how this weather affects you and why you like it?

I enjoy all kinds of weathers for copious reasons, however, my favourite one is snowy weather during winters. Winter breezes feel magical and experiencing them with family create memorable events. I wait for this time of the season to have delightful time with new additions to my wardrobe and mini library.

It occurs in winter season which lasts for about two or three months beginning in November and lasting until January. Sometimes, it lasts longer depending on the region where it continues to snow or have cold winds until February. Snow creates bewitching landscapes and hotels offer cozy  stay that include serving of warm food and beverages to enjoy the weather.

I like sitting by the window reading a book with a cup of hot chocolate while watching the snowfall. At times when I am not doing this, I have colossal  amount of fun with family and friends who often come over for a game nights and dinners. I love organising such social gatherings to keep in touch with my friends. Sometimes, I travel to an adventurous location to admire the scenic beauty that snow creates and often go skiing whenever I find time.

Snowy weather brings contentment to me. I like playing in snow with my nephew who is a little bundle of joy. However, it does sometimes give me a headache, but it is usually manageable. There are also some sporting events conducted that include a competition of making sculptures using snow and being an art lover, I make sure to participate in them.

Vocabulary:

  • Copious – various
  • Bewitching – enchanting
  • Cozy – comfortable
  • Colossal – great
  • Contentment – a state of happiness

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. do you often pay attention to the weather forecast.

I check the weather forecast only when I have plans to travel somewhere or just go out. It helps to decide the kind of clothes I need to wear and equipment like an umbrella to take with me while I am out. A clear sky can quickly turn dark with rainy clouds, so weather forecast is reliable to make necessary preparations in case of an emergency.

2. How does the weather (or, the weather forecast) affect what activities people do?

Weather influences us in multiple ways. For instance, when a picnic is planned and it suddenly starts to rain, it ruins the plans of that outing. Likewise, rainy weather effects sporting events where play must stop due to bad weather conditions. In addition, severe snowfall obstructs transportation and high temperature poses as a threat to people going out who might get dehydrated.

3. Why do some people dislike some kinds of weather?

I believe it is because of the effects that weather has on people and their daily routine. If weather conditions restrict people from going about their day or induce some kind of health implications, they may dislike that kind of weather. I do not like hot weather as it makes me feel irritated and thirsty all the time.

4. Does the weather have an effect on the economy?

Yes, weather influences the economy of a region. For example, summertime crop yield, especially that of fruits like mangoes generates revenue increasing the economic conditions of a region based on their export business. On the other hand, countries that have extreme snowfall during winter see a decline in their economy as it makes regular movement difficult.

During winters, schools usually take a break and close down. The days are shorter and the nights get longer. The chilly mornings give you a different sense altogether. Hot drinks like coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are enjoyed more during winters. The sun rises quite late and sometimes it does not.

Even when it does, it doesn’t get a bit hot. People long for a little sunshine as the cold weather sends chills down the spine. But, there is also a downside of this season. The farmers, homeless people, and animals are most affected by this season. There is hardly any business in this season for farmers. Hundreds of homeless people die due to the harsh winters.

As the animals do not have proper shelter, they too lose their lives. In addition, many flights are also canceled during this season. Nonetheless, this does not make winter any less important. It is quite essential to maintain balance in the weather of our country.

Why I Love Winter?

I personally love winters. This season brings a lot of healthy fruits and vegetables. People get the chance to eat fresh grapes, apples, carrots, cauliflower, guava and more. Furthermore, so many beautiful flowers bloom during this season. These flowers include roses, dahlias and more. This makes winter even more beautiful than it already is.

Other than that, no lizards are to be found as they go in hibernation. This makes me very happy and lets me live fearlessly. Most importantly, winter mornings are the best part of this season for me. I like getting up early in winters and witnessing the morning dew on flowers. There is a different vibe altogether that comes with winters.

What do you normally do in this weather: The winter season is jam-packed with events. I usually spend the wonderful evenings of this season with my family. Every weekend, while my mother bakes delicious cakes for us, I light a bonfire in my backyard. On Christmas and New Year's Eve, I distribute sweets to the public and donate warm clothing to those in need.

How does the weather affect you: You can feel the magic in the air when the first winter breeze blows through the trees. In my country, the season begins in early November and lasts until late February. The coldest yet most active season occurs in December and early January.

Why do you enjoy this type of weather: I adore cold weather because it brings people together; we all long for warmth, love, and connection. The holidays bring big family meals and never-ending gratitude, and the wheel of time seems to turn a little slower than usual. Also, I adore hot cocoa, hot cider, and peppermint-spiced lattes, and there is no better time to enjoy all of these than during the Winter.

Introduction: Although I enjoy activities such as swimming in scorching heat and sipping coffee in freezing temperatures, my favourite weather is rainy.

What kind of weather do you have: Rain usually falls in my city during July, August, and September. However, it can also occur in February and March.

What do you normally do in this weather: Most people consider the current weather to be a blessing. Some call it romantic weather, while others consider it a divine blessing. My city's summers are brutal. So whenever it rains, we get some relief from the oppressive heat.

How does the weather affect you: On rainy days, I usually go for a long drive. As a foodie, I enjoy eating my favorite snacks like cutlets and spring rolls with espresso coffee to make the most of the weather. Aside from that, I attend rain dance parties.

Why do you enjoy this type of weather: Because I dislike the hot and humid climate, it serves as a stress reliever for me. This weather brings me closer to my mother nature. Furthermore, I have a great deal of respect for farmers because they satisfy our hunger by producing food. I'm happy because farmers are revitalized by rain. Aside from that, my city streets are spotless after the rain, and the air we breathe is pure. I can enjoy my walk more now.

The examiner will pose a series of additional questions related to the topic introduced in Part 2, which in this case is the "Describe your favourite weather" IELTS cue card in Part 3 of the IELTS Speaking Test.

Q1. Why do some people dislike certain types of weather?

A1. I believe this is because the weather can limit people's activities. People may dislike the weather if it prevents them from participating in their favourite activity. For example, my friend despises rainy days because he enjoys playing cricket and is unable to do so due to the rain.

Q2. Is the weather a factor in the economy?

A2. Yes, the weather has an impact on our economy. For example, because our winters are milder, many people from cold northern countries visit us during that time. As a result, it promotes tourism. Furthermore, certain weather conditions, such as hot, sunny days, increase the earnings of local ice cream vendors. Similarly, colder weather boosts the jacket and jumper industry.

Q3. Do you frequently check the weather forecast?

A3. Yes, I monitor the weather forecast regularly. This is because I travel frequently, and knowing the weather allows me to plan ahead of time. Furthermore, climate change has made weather unpredictable. For example, it can rain even during the dry season, so knowing the weather daily has become essential.

Essay on Weather and Climate

Essay Contents:

  • Essay on Variation in Climate and Weather

Essay # 1. Meaning of Weather and Climate:

Weather is the day-to-day state of atmosphere and pertains to short term changes in conditions of heat, moisture and air movement. Weather results from processes that attempt to equalise the differences in the distribution of net radiant energy from sun. In other words, the instantaneous state of atmosphere can be called as weather. It is usually expressed as fine, fair, foggy, cloudy, rainy, sunny or windy weather.

The process of exchange of heat and moisture between earth and atmosphere over a long period of time (month, season, and year) related to large areas (zone, state, country, continent) results in conditions what we call climate.

It is aggregate of atmospheric conditions involving heat, moisture and air movement. In other words, the totality of weather over a large area is known as climate. It is expressed as marine, continental, arid, semiarid, humid or desert climate.

ADVERTISEMENTS: (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Essay # 2. Elements of Weather and Climate :

Weather refers to the sum total of the atmospheric conditions in terms of temperature, pressure, wind, moisture, cloudiness, precipitation and visibility of a particular place at any given time. In fact, weather denotes short-term variations of atmospheric conditions and it is highly variable.

On the other hand, climate is defined as aggregate weather conditions of any region in long-term perspective. According to Trewartha ‘climate represents a composite of day to day weather conditions, and of the atmospheric elements, within a specified area over a long period of time.’ According to Critchfield ‘climate is more than a statistical average; it is the aggregate of atmospheric conditions involving heat, moisture, and air movement. Extremes must always be considered in any climatic description in addition to means, trends, and probabilities.’

According to Koeppen and De Long ‘climate is a summary, a composite of weather conditions over a long period of time; truly portrayed, it includes details of variations-extremes, frequencies, sequences-of the weather elements which occur from year to year, particularly in temperature and precipitation. Climate is the aggregate of the weather.’

G.F. Taylor has maintained that ‘climate is the integration of weather, and weather is the differentiation of climate. The distinction between weather and climate is, therefore, mainly one of time.’ Temperature, pressure, wind, humidity, precipitation, cloudiness etc. are elements of weather and climate.

ADVERTISEMENTS: (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Essay # 3. Importance of Weather and Climate :

Weather and climate are the most pervasive factors of crop environment.

Knowledge of agrometeorology is useful in several aspects of practical agriculture as indicated below:

1. It has practical utility in timing of agricultural operations so as to make the best use of favourable weather conditions and make adjustments for adverse weather.

2. The dangers of crop production due to pest and disease incidence, occurrence of prolonged drought, soil erosion, frost and weather hazards can be minimised.

3. Weather support also provides guidelines for long range or seasonal planning of crops and cultivars most suited to anticipated climatic conditions.

4. Agrometeorological information can be used in land use planning, risk analysis of climatic hazards, production and harvest forecasts and linking similar crop environments for crop adaptability and productivity.

Weather Elements :

Weather is a phase of climate representing atmospheric condition at a given place and at a given instant of time as against climate, representing atmospheric condition for longer period of time over a larger area.

Components of weather and climate or simply weather elements include:

a. Temperature.

b. Solar radiation.

c. Humidity.

e. Pressure.

g. Precipitation.

The influence of weather and climate on crop growth and development and final yield is complicated by complexity of interactions associated with crops and the environment during the crop season.

The influence of weather and climate on crop productivity can be summarised as indicated below:

Weather parameters with favourable influence :

1. Weather and climate are the important factors to determining the success or failure of agriculture.

2. All the agricultural operations from sowing to harvest of crops depend on the mercy of weather.

3. Climate determines suitability of a crop to a particular region while weather plays a major role in the productivity of a crop in the region.

4. The excess or shortage of elements of weather and climate exerts a negative influence on crop growth, development and final yield.

5. The effect of weather and climate is complex as elements of climate operate simultaneously in nature.

6. Due to complexity of environment in which a crop is grown, it is difficult to assign an, optimum value of a climatic element for maximum crop productivity.

Weather parameters with negative influence :

1. Excessive and untimely rains.

2. Scanty rains with prolonged dry spells.

3. Heat and cold waves.

4. Dust-storms, thunderstorms and hailstorms.

5. High winds.

Weather variables having both positive and negative effects on crop productivity :

1. Solar radiation (UV, light and infrared).

2. Temperature (air and soil).

3. Humidity,

5. Precipitation.

Essay # 4. Difference between Weather and Climate:

The differences between weather and climate are:

1. Pertains to the day-to-day state of the atmosphere at a particular place.

2. Refers to specific instant of time and place.

3. It is always changing and differs from time to time.

1. Pertains to the atmosphere over a given region,

2. Refers to a large region and for a long period of time.

3. It is more or less stable and differs from region to region.

Essay # 5. Factors Controlling Weather and Climate :

Geographical factors influencing weather and climate are referred to as climatic controls .

a. Latitude.

b. Altitude.

c. Land and water bodies.

d. Mountains.

e. Topography.

The distance from the equator (latitude), either from south or north, largely creates variation in climate. Based on latitude, the climate has been classified as tropical, subtropical, temperate and polar climates. The height from mean sea level (altitude/elevation) adds to variation in climate.

Temperature and pressure decreases with increasing height from mean sea level. Based on altitude, the climate is described as mountainous and valley/plateau climates. Nearness to large bodies of water also causes variation in climate. The climates are referred to as continental and maritime.

Instruments for Measuring Weather Parameters :

Different instruments are used for measuring weather parameters in observatories and laboratories. Depending on the level of accuracy required and the cost, instruments are used for recording the weather data.

Irrespective of whether it is an observatory or a lab. Table 2.1 gives a list or of instruments and weather parameter measured:

Essay # 6. Variation in Climate and Weather :

Climatic parameters are determined, primarily, by geographic factors such as:

1. Latitude.

2. Altitude.

3. Distance from large water bodies.

4. Ocean currents.

5. Intensity of wind.

All the above climatic parameters influence the wind. Three geographic factors—altitude, latitude and longitude are important for crop production. These are embodied in Hopkin Bioclimatic Law. It states that crop production activities (planting to harvest) and specific morphological developments are delayed by 4 days for each 1° latitude, 5° longitude and 12 m (40 ft) of altitude as one move northward and upward, respectively.

Intensity, velocity and direction of wind vary with three geographic factors leading to variation in climate and weather.

Geographic surface features such as large bodies of water and mountain ranges modify the wind characteristics and hence the meteorological parameters. A mountain range in the path of prevailing wind creates moist conditions on the windward side and dry conditions on the leeward side. Air cools adiabatically to the dew point as it rises up the mountains.

The air that is forced upward by the mountain range loses its moisture and becomes a dry mass when it goes over the top. This is called the orographic effect (relief effect), which is different from the usual rainfall without mountains. Topography influences weather and microclimate through variation in temperature and wind.

Water is normally warmer than the surrounding land. When wind blows over a large body of water, it picks up moisture, thus creating a more moderate leeward condition. The leeward side of the body of water is subjected to less temperature fluctuations (relatively stable weather) compared to windward side. Windward side is suitable for drought tolerant crops and leeward side to relatively drought sensitive crops. North facing and south facing slopes may differ in climate and natural vegetation. These sites differ in crops that can be grown.

World climate is not static but is subjected to changes caused by factors such as systematic changes in solar activity, sea level, atmospheric carbon dioxide and continental drift. Continental drift gradually changes the latitudinal position of the land masses and the sea level. Volcanic explosions discharge large amounts of dust and gases into the atmosphere. This may cause a decline in temperature (reverse of greenhouse effect).

Accumulation of greenhouse gases is responsible for global warming (gradual increasing trend in global average temperature largely due to greenhouse effect). In spite of technological advances in modern crop production, crop production is still subject to the vagaries of the weather that are manifested in three main ways— moisture stress, temperature stress and natural disasters.

Essay On ‘My Favourite Season’ For Class 1, 2 And 3 Kids

Shaili Contractor

Key Points to Remember When Writing an Essay on ‘My Favourite Season’ for Primary Classes

10 lines on ‘my favourite season is summer’ in english, short essay on ‘my favourite season is winter’ in english, long essay on ‘my favourite season is monsoon’, what will your child learn from the essay on ‘my favourite season’.

India has four main seasons. Children enjoy different aspects of each season as they explore the little world around them. Everyone has a favourite season for multiple reasons. If you ask your little one what their favourite season is, they will share their thoughts with you excitedly, with reasons just as adorable as they are. Isn’t a child’s perspective of the world just wonderful! Kids grow up observing nature and their surroundings. Schools encourage them to give words to their observations by writing essays. ‘My Favourite Season’ is a common essay topic where children can share their knowledge along with their own experiences to state reasons for which season they like the most. But writing an essay can be easier said than done for some kids. If your child of class 1, 2 or 3 finds it difficult to write this composition, here are some tips that will help them write a beautiful essay on their favourite season and impress everyone!

Before you start writing a paragraph on your favourite season, think about what you want to express the most in the essay. Here are some tips:

  • Short one-line essays on seasons can focus on simple facts about the season, like the weather.
  • Express your thoughts and how the seasons make you feel, and tie it to why it is your favourite.
  • When writing longer essays about seasons, try to gather some general knowledge and facts.
  • Weave these facts with your reasons for it being the best season.
  • Touch briefly upon basic concepts and write them articulately to form a long essay.

Summer is undoubtedly a fun time for children as they get a long vacation and holiday from school. Summer, therefore is a favourite season for many children. It is quite an easy topic and a lot of fun to write, and children can use plenty of imagination and write from their knowledge and experience. Here are a few lines about the summer season, which will make essay writing easy for children of classes 1 and 2:

  • Summer is my favourite season as it is time for long holidays from school.
  • We can stay at home all day and play with friends and cousins.
  • Summer is also a hot season, but I like it because it is bright and beautiful all around.
  • I enjoy having cool drinks and eating ice creams during the hot summer days.
  • Summers are also the season when we get mangoes. They are my favourite fruit!
  • I always go for a trip during summer with my family to the coastal cities.
  • After the trip, I join summer camps to learn art and craft and make new friends.
  • My mom takes me to swimming classes every evening during summer.
  • I enjoy swimming and all the fun activities I do during summer.
  • Every day during summer is a fun day!

Winter season is the time when children enjoy the cool weather. Moreover, winters are also a festive time when children enjoy receiving gifts and having a good time with family. Many children have winter as their favourite season. When writing an essay about winter as their favourite season, students need to write some facts and weave them into a good story. Here is an example of an essay on ‘My Favourite Season is Winter’:

Every year we go through a cycle of different seasons. I like all the seasons, but my favourite is winter. Winter in India starts around November and ends by the last week of February. The coldest months are December and January. I still like winter because the skies are clear and beautiful every day during this season. I especially like standing in the sunlight every morning and enjoying the warmth while the weather is still cold. It is fun to see the water vapour from our breath when we exhale or speak on cold winter mornings.

Since I live in a relatively warmer part of the country, winters here are mild and enjoyable. Some of my friends who come from the North of the country tell me that it is very chilly and snowy during the winter season. Some day, I want to take a trip to the mountains during winter to experience the cold and make a snowman. Winter is also my favourite season because it is time for Christmas, when I enjoy delicious treats at home and get many presents. Winter ends with spring which is my second favourite season.

Monsoons are a fun time when children enjoy playing in the rain, floating paper boats in rainwater, and enjoy the fresh breezy weather of the season. It is no wonder that monsoons are a favourite season for many children. Let us guide them to write a long essay about their favourite season. They can start with a plan about what to include in the essay. Once they have their thoughts and ideas ready, they can decide how to start the narrative in an engaging way. Here is an example of how to write an essay on monsoons:

The rainy season is my favourite season of all the four seasons we experience here in India. It starts during the first week of June and extends till the last week of October. I love this season because it begins right after the hot summers, and I think it is a much-needed relief from the scorching heat we experience for three months. The rainy season is also called the monsoon.

Apart from the heat relief, the onset of monsoon is very important for the rainforests in the Western Ghats. It is also essential for farmers inland, who wait for the rainwater throughout the year. When our schools open after the summer vacation, we go back and sit comfortably in the classroom in the pleasantly cool weather of the rainy season. Some of my friends think it becomes dull after the bright sunshine of the summers, but I feel it is the best season as we see rain and sunshine together. Monsoon evenings are especially beautiful as we can see the sun through the rain clouds passing by. We may also get to see a rainbow in the sky if we are lucky.

The rainy season is also very important for our country as it is the most essential source of fresh water. The continuous period of rains fills up the lakes and rivers of the country and recharges the groundwater. Farmers plant major crops such as rice during the monsoon. We also store water in the reservoirs for use until the next monsoon. The greenery that follows the rainy season is my favourite aspect of the season. All the plants and flowers in the city bloom during the monsoon. The dry patches of land become full of greenery that is very pleasant to the eyes.

My Favorite Season is an interesting topic for children as they get to explore their ideas and imagination. Your child will think about the different seasons and learn more about them. It will build their knowledge about the seasons and also help them articulate why they like one particular season the best. By writing about the seasons, they will also understand the delicate balance of the ecosystem and learn the importance of maintaining it. Writing about their favourite season can be a little tricky for students in the lower grades, but it will teach them how to gather facts, make observations, draw from their own experiences and write creatively.

My Favorite Season

How it works

The weather in summer is very warm and sunny. You can go to the river, to the outdoor pool and swim there. But there are also rains in summer. The rains are small and warm, such rains are called mushroom rains. But on one holiday “Trinity” there was a heavy downpour that even in all the villages the lights were turned off. I was very scared then, but my mother says: “don’t be afraid, everything will be fine”.

The weather is brisk in summer.

In the early morning, you can hear the singing of different birds. For example: nightingale, warbler, cuckoo, starling, they sing in our garden, grandfather made a birdhouse for them. In summer, all the grass is green and fresh. There are a lot of insects in the summer. For example: butterflies June beetles, butterflies – ladybugs and many other insects. There are a lot of animals in the forests: foxes, hares, bears, wolves, badgers and many others.

Children sometimes ask questions. And where can you go to rest in the summer? I’ll tell you that you can go to the village, to the camp. In the village, you will help your grandmother: water the beds, weed them, water and feed the animals. Lead them out to the herd. And if you want to go to the camp, then you will rest and play there.

Games in the summer are very diverse: you can play hide and seek, catch-up, volleyball, jump rope, rubber-band jumping and many other games. You can also play on the water. For example: water football, basketball.

You sometimes ask your mother: “Mom, what should I wear”? I’ll tell you what you can wear in the summer. T-shirts, dresses, sundresses, shorts, skirts, jeans. And when it gets cool outside, you can wear: a light jacket, jeans, sneakers or boots. When you go swimming you put on a swimsuit, swimming shorts. I like summer very much. Do you children love him?

But also I really love summer! At this time of year, everything blooms around, and nature becomes alive again! I like to wake up with the first rooster crow. Watch the sun rise slowly in the sky. I like to bask in its rays. And in the evening, all attention is attracted by a radiant sunset, filling any human heart with an irresistible feeling of happiness.

Every summer, my brother and I leave for the village to visit grandmother for all the holidays. We diligently help her in the household: we take care of vegetables in the garden and water a huge front garden with flowers. In summer, this front garden reminds me of the eighth wonder of the world, because each flower opens its bud, filling the entire area between the house and the fence. Many times I noticed how passers-by, passing by, could not take their eyes off the colorful plants. Often, my brother and I could spend the whole day in this small garden, watching the flower lazily throw back its petals and insects immediately flock to it.

In winter, spring and autumn, nature does not smell so beautifully. It even seems to me that all the flora and fauna every year is waiting for the summer, when you can finally feel free, shake off the heavy snow and get warm from the winds and frosts.

Summer is also a great time for new adventures! Only in warm seasons, hiking is an extraordinary pleasure. In the forest, you can see many animals, swim in the river, try real camping rations and at night, when the sky is covered with dark fog and the stars sanctify a black canvas, you can take a guitar and sing inspiring songs by the fire. I really love such trips, because it is in them that I feel myself as one with nature.

And most importantly, summer is the longest vacation. In three months I can have a good rest and start studying at school with renewed vigor!

Photo Essay: Widespread storms tear through Houston, region begins recovery

A widespread storm system hit Houston on Thursday leaving a path of destruction from Cypress to the East End.

Peaking around 110 mph, the storm’s gale force winds mangled 10 power transmission towers, knocked out power for 1 million CenterPoint customers and left at least seven dead.

Across the region, Houstonians were left to pick up the pieces as dark storm clouds gave way to an overcast Friday morning. Houston Landing’s photojournalists documented the storm’s path throughout Harris County — depicting first responders clearing debris, elected officials calling for order, people managing the heat without electricity and residents wearily surveying the damage.

There's been a major shake-up to the 2024 Preakness Stakes field.

Morning line favorite Muth was scratched from the second leg of the Triple Crown on Wednesday after spiking a fever.

The scratch came roughly 12 hours after Muth arrived at Pimlico Race Course, the site of the Preakness Stakes, in Baltimore. Trainer Bob Baffert said the 3-year-old thoroughbred's temperature reached 103 degrees Fahrenheit.

Muth had been listed as the slight Preakness favorite over 2024 Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan . But now Mystik Dan has one less challenger as he looks to become the first horse since Justify in 2018 to win the Derby and Preakness.

Mystik Dan favorite at Preakness after spiking fever forces Bob Baffert to scratch Muth

Kentucky derby winner mystik dan's path to a triple crown may have gotten a lot easier with wednesday's news out of baltimore., by stephen whyno | the associated press • published may 15, 2024.

Preakness favorite Muth has been ruled out of the second leg of the Triple Crown after spiking a fever, taking arguably the best horse and one trained by Bob Baffert out of the race.

The Maryland Jockey Club announced Muth’s status change Wednesday morning, roughly 12 hours after the horse arrived at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Baffert said Muth's temperature reached 103 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) and the camp had no choice but to scratch him.

“We are sick about this. The horse had been doing really well,” Baffert said. “But we have to do what’s right by the horse.”

Muth was set to be one of two horses running in the Preakness on Saturday for Baffert, a Hall of Famer and two-time winner of the Triple Crown who is still expected to saddle Imagination as part of what's now a field of eight. Baffert was not expected to fly in until Thursday, though assistant trainer Jimmy Barnes accompanied the horses on their flight to Newark, New Jersey, and the drive down to Maryland.

At the post-position draw Monday, Muth opened as the 8-5 favorite with Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan second at 5-2 and Imagination and Brad Cox-trained Catching Freedom tied for third at 6-1.

"It takes a lot out of the equation," said Ray Bryner, the assistant trainer for Mystik Dan. “We don’t have to worry about him, so there’s eight horses now and we can kind of run our race and not worry about chasing the horse they call the favorite.”

Preakness up next for jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. after winning Kentucky Derby with Mystik Dan

Muth had beaten a field that included Mystik Dan, who finished third, in the Arkansas Derby on March 30.

“I was confident we were going to get revenge,” Bryner said.

That was Muth's last race because of Baffert's ban at Churchill Downs prohibiting him from entering anyone in the Kentucky Derby, a race won by Mystik Dan in the closest finish since 1947. Mystik Dan now figures to become the Preakness favorite.

“I’m sure there’s a lot of disappointed people on that end of it," Bryner said. “I’m not disappointed, I have to be honest. With him out of the race, it makes us pretty strong. Especially if we get the off (muddy) track like he’s shown he can already handle, I think we’re in pretty good shape.”

Why Rafael Devers’ record-setting HR wasn’t his favorite part of Red Sox win

  • Published: May. 21, 2024, 12:27 a.m.

Rafael Devers

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Believe it or not, Rafael Devers’ record-setting home run in the fourth inning of Monday’s win wasn’t the highlight of his night.

In Devers’ mind, the home run — his sixth in as many games, setting a franchise record — was a cool accomplishment. But it wasn’t as meaningful as a rare 6-5-3 double play the Red Sox turned in the seventh inning of a 5-0 victory.

With one out and a man on first, Josh Lowe hit a ground ball up the middle that shortstop Ceddanne Rafaela (in the shift) fielded on the second base side of the bag and shoveled to Devers, who made the turn at second base and threw to first baseman Dominic Smith to escape the inning . It was a play that doesn’t come up much in game action but is still something the Red Sox practice often. To see pregame work come to fruition in a game was especially rewarding for the third baseman.

essay on favourite weather

“They work on that every single day and it never happens,” said manager Alex Cora. “Finally, they had a chance and they turned it.”

From the outside, though, a twin killing to preserve a five-run lead won’t be nearly as memorable as the fourth-inning opposite-field shot Devers hit off righty Taj Bradley. Devers was one of seven players in Red Sox history to homer in five consecutive games . He’s the first to do it in six straight games and is two homers away from tying the all-time MLB record.

“The accomplishment is amazing, six days in a row hitting homers,” Cora said. “Shoot, I can recall how many days in a row I got hits.”

Devers’ homer streak began last week at home against the Rays, as he left Fenway Park on both Wednesday and Thursday in losses. It continued on the road in St. Louis over the weekend, as he hit blasts in two more losses Friday and Saturday before finally contributing to a win in Sunday’s finale. Monday marked Boston’s second win a row and an early offensive turnaround played a big role. Bradley struck out eight of nine batters he faced in three perfect innings before Boston’s bats got to him the second time through. Jarren Duran tripled, Wilyer Abreu doubled and Devers hit his homer to put Boston up, 3-0, in the fourth. Rafaela added a two-run shot of his own as Boston won for just the second time in 17 tries at Tropicana Field.

“We were joking in the dugout, ‘It can only get better offensively. It’s not gonna get worse, so let’s see what happens,’” Cora said. “And that happened.

“We put good at-bats from top to bottom. We put pressure on them, too. All around, one of the best games we’ve played here ... It was fun. It was a well-played baseball game.

Throughout his streak, Devers has insisted that he’s not focused on homering on a daily basis and that his home runs come naturally as a product of a good approach. And even though he made history, both Devers and Cora insisted that the star’s swing is not where he wants it to be. While his plate discipline and pitch recognition have been strong, the 26-year-old doesn’t feel completely locked in at the plate. Devers’ struggles with runners in scoring position throughout the year have left him searching.

“I know it’s a huge accomplishment for me and for the organization, but I’m not the type of player to focus on the records,” Devers said through translator Carlos Villoria Benítez.

“I’ve been hitting only one hit per game and that’s not me,” he added. “I’d like to get more singles and I feel like I’m missing a lot of my pitches. For me to be myself, I need to get more hits per game instead of just one. Of course, they’re important hits, but at the same time, I’m not up there yet.”

Devers might not be satisfied with every swing he takes but he sure did like the one that resulted in the ball reaching the left-field bleachers at the Trop on Monday. He flipped his bat, leaped a bit and celebrated toward the dugout before rounding the basis.

“I don’t usually think about records in the game,” he said. “For me, it was mostly about hitting the ball well in the air with men in scoring position ... For me to be able to help the team and get ahead with two runs at that point, it was a great moment.”

All eyes will be on Devers on Tuesday night as he tries to extend the streak to seven against Zack Littell, who surrendered the second blast of the streak Thursday night at Fenway. Devers said it’s in God’s hands whether or not he can make the streak a week-long feat. A teammate who had a great showing of his own Monday night is expecting the run to continue.

“He’s a freak,” said starter Tanner Houck, who tossed seven shutout innings . “That guy can hit any pitch at any time. To see what he’s done, he’s just an incredible player.”

Maybe there’s another double play to be turned, too.

“The double play for me was a very important play,” Devers said. “At the same time, we’ve been making a lot of errors. We haven’t been communicating as well. For us to make that play in that situation, it was huge.”

2024 Preakness Stakes: Analyzing the horses in the field including favorites, contenders and pretenders

essay on favourite weather

Immediately following Mystik Dan’s win in Kentucky Derby 150, trainer Ken McPeek said he wasn’t sure he’d send the colt to run in the Preakness.

His comment was met with widespread skepticism, and justifiably so: Last weekend, McPeek confirmed that his Derby winner would indeed contest the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Two other Derby runners, Catching Freedom and Just Steel, will also run on Saturday afternoon.

Still banned by Churchill Downs from running horses in the Derby, Bob Baffert was expected to run two horses at Pimlico, including favored Muth, but Muth was scratched on Wednesday morning after coming down with a fever. With that change, Mystik Dan inherited the status of the favorite on the morning line.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but there’s rain in the forecast for Saturday, as there was for the Kentucky Derby. That rain did indeed materialize in Louisville, but far enough before the race that the track ended up being rated “fast” by post time. The current forecast suggests that that will not be the case in Baltimore, so handicap accordingly.

Post time for the Preakness is 7:01 p.m. ET. CNBC will air coverage from 1:30-4:30 p.m. ET and it’ll switch to NBC at 4:30. Streaming throughout the day is available on NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports app, and Peacock.

In post-position order, here’s your look at the field for the Grade 1, $2 million Preakness Stakes, with a focus on wet track performances, running styles, and race records. Good luck and safe trips to all.

Owner: Average Joe Racing Stables, Dan Wells

Trainer: Jeff Engler

Jockey: Joe Bravo

Morning line odds: 20-1

He’s never run on an off-track. His only effort in a graded stakes race resulted in a fifth-place finish by open lengths. Could be one who flourishes on a wet track, but I’m passing. He was the second alternate for the Kentucky Derby, but did not run.

2 – Uncle Heavy

Owner: Michael Milam and LC Racing

Trainer: Robert Reid Jr.

Jockey: Irad Ortiz Jr.

Well-known in the Midlantic, trainer Robert Reid might not be familiar to casual racing fans, but he’s got a reputation as a good horseman, and I think he’s got a shot here to win the biggest race of his career. The storyline is a good one — Uncle Heavy was bred by Reid’s sister-in-law Barbara and is named for her husband, Reid’s brother Mark — but beyond sentimental support, Uncle Heavy has a chance to upset on Saturday. He’s run twice on wet tracks, winning both races, including the Grade 3 Withers Stakes. His stalking style will be compromised if Imagination emerges as the lone speed (which is likely), but if anyone decides to go with Imagination, Uncle Heavy might be able to stick around at the end. He’s going to be on my tickets, on top and underneath.

essay on favourite weather

3 – Catching Freedom

Owner: Albaugh Family Stables

Trainer:  Brad Cox

Jockey: Flavien Prat

Morning line odds: 6-1

He’s pretty much a closer, which doesn’t bode well for his chances in a race that is unlikely to be contested as a speed duel. I thought he had a shot underneath in the Derby, and finished fourth by less than two lengths; he may well move up here, though I’d downgrade his chances on an off-track, at least for the win.

Owner: Zedan Racing Stables

Trainer: Bob Baffert

Jockey: Juan Hernandez

Morning line odds: SCRATCH

Preakness favorite Muth has been scratched from Saturday’s race due to a high temperature.

5 – Mystik Dan

Owner: Lance Gasaway, 4 G Racing, Daniel Hamby III, Valley View Farm

Trainer: Ken McPeek

Jockey: Brian Hernandez Jr.

Morning line odds: 5-2

In my Derby preview, I wrote, “Another who loves the slop — he won the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park by eight lengths on a muddy track — and that may be the primary reason to consider him on Saturday, though his ability to rate off the pace in the Southwest after beginning his career as an early leader is a promising development. His performances have been inconsistent; the mud moves him up, but not enough to win.” OK, I was kind of right — and wrong. With Muth gone and two wins early in his career from on or just off the pace, and the possibility of rain, there’s nothing not to like about his chances.

6 – Seize the Grey

Owner: Myracehorse

Trainer: D. Wayne Lukas

Jockey: Jaime Torres

Morning line odds: 15-1

One of the few horses here that has shown a proclivity for going to the lead and had success doing it. After a maiden win in which he led gate-to-wire — on a sloppy track — he’s become more of a stalking type, but might he try to engage Imagination early? Damned if he does, because Imagination is the better horse, and damned if he doesn’t, because he’s not good enough to close into the pace that Imagination is likely to set. He’s used to running against lesser competition, though he did win the Grade 2 Pat Day Mile last out — thinking that the distance will be his downfall and perhaps he is useful underneath in your betting.

essay on favourite weather

7 – Just Steel

Owner: BC Stables, LLC, Henry Schmueckle

Jockey: Joel Rosario

Just Steel initially ran with the pacesetter in the Derby, then faded badly to finish 17th by 33 lengths, and that strategy is unlikely to work here, either. He’s run poorly on off-tracks, and though he’s bred from Triple Crown winner Justify, who won this race in 2018 in one of the worst rainstorms I’ve seen at a racetrack, I don’t see him following in his father’s hoofprints.

8 – Tuscan Gold

Owner: William H. Lawrence, Walmac Farm, Stonestreet Stables LLC

Trainer: Chad Brown

Jockey: Tyler Gaffalione

Morning line odds: 8-1

Very lightly raced compared to his rivals here, this $600,000 yearling purchase has only a maiden win on his resume, that coming in January. Trainer Chad Brown has seen him as a distance horse from the start, never running him at less than a mile, and while the talent is there, this feels like a big ask. No off-track experience and very little experience of any kind.

9 – Imagination

Jockey: Frankie Dettori

He cost $1.05 million as a yearling, his ownership group includes some of the sport’s heaviest hitters and he’s got Baffert as a trainer and Dettori as a rider. On paper, everything about this horse screams “superstar.” In six races, he’s got two wins and four seconds, and like many a Baffert horse, he may well go to the lead and stay there, especially with no other frontrunners to challenge him. Three of his runner-up performances, including in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, have come by a neck. 6-1 feels generous, and I’ve got him as the most likely winner.
