Want some help naming your cruise line?

Business name generator, what are the costs involved in opening a cruise line.

The cruise ship must be purchased or rented. Most ships are purchased. However, some cruise ships cost upwards of a billion dollars. Obtain financing, buy a small used cruise ship and gradually build toward the financing of a larger, more upscale liner. The ship must be fitted with lodging including beds and furnishings like dressers, tables, chairs etc. Cruise ships have everything from gift shops to bars, restaurants, casinos, games, spas, and beyond. Employees must be hired right away to handle cruise ship duties like customer service, food preparation, cleaning, marketing and general cruise ship management.

What are the ongoing expenses for a cruise line?

Ongoing expenses include cruise ship maintenance, employee wages/salaries, insurance, marketing, food, refreshments, cleaning supplies and office costs. The typical cruise ship employee will earn between $10 and $18 per hour. Professionals who handle marketing, accounting and management duties will earn between $30,000 and $60,000 per year. Cruise liner captains typically make $100,000 to $200,000 per year. Budget at least $500 to $1,000 per month for advertising purposes. Cruise ship maintenance has the potential to be a major cost. Keep several thousand dollars in reserve just in case a major problem arises. Ship supplies will cost at least $2,000 to $5,000 per month. Budget at least a couple hundred dollars per month for office supplies and utilities.

Who is the target market?

Everyone enjoys a cruise. However, cruises are particularly popular amongst singles looking for romance and a fun way to spend their vacation. Families also flock to cruises as they provide an exciting and adventurous means of vacationing. In general, adults between the ages of 21 and 70 with an abundance of discretionary income should be targeted.

How does a cruise line make money?

This business makes money by charging people a fee for cruises. These voyages include all sorts of activities, food and lodging. Cruises typically stop at numerous locations, allowing customers to engage in fun activities like shopping and dining off the ship. The majority of cruise lines give customers the option of purchasing more expensive deluxe packages that include luxurious activities such as spa treatments.

Cruises range from $50 per person per day all the way up to several hundred dollars or more per person per day. Consider charging customers a flat rate for a cruise trip that spans several days and nights.

How much profit can a cruise line make?

The profitability of a cruise line business depends on numerous factors such as customer demand and the ship's maintenance requirements. A single cruise ship has the potential to generate a profit in the range of six figures. Add more cruise ships to your business and it is possible to make millions of dollars or more per year. As an example, Carnival Cruise Line posted a profit of $2.8 billion in 2016.

How can you make your business more profitable?

Add up-sell extras like massages, spa treatments, luxurious lodging and other niceties. Add quarter-operated arcade machines and pool tables to the ship's gaming section. Consider also adding a casino to generate additional profit.

To avoid liability and potential lawsuits, cruise lines should have their clients sign waivers.  An example of an appropriate waiver can be found here .

Services Contract

In businesses where services are provided on an extended basis, a services contract is often put in place outlining terms and conditions of service. In the cruise line business, this is often referred to as a ticket contract.

Cruise lines should require clients to sign a services agreement before starting a new project. This agreement should clarify client expectations and minimize risk of legal disputes by setting out payment terms and conditions, service level expectations, and intellectual property ownership. Here is an example of one such contract.

If you’re unsure of the types of risks that your business may face, begin with General Liability Insurance . This is the most common coverage that small businesses need, so it’s a great place to start for your business.

How to promote & market a cruise line

If you plan on selling tickets to a general cruise without a theme, spread out your marketing efforts across numerous channels. Cruise ship customers consume media through inbound and outbound channels. Advertise on the web through SEO (search engine optimization) campaigns, social media, blogging etc. Mix in some traditional outbound ads in local magazines, newspapers, radio spots, and so on.

How to keep customers coming back

Consider a theme cruise that appeals to a specific age cohort or demographic. As an example, Disney's family-friendly cruise liners are quite popular. Perhaps you can establish a niche with a singles cruise theme, a golden years theme that attracts retirees or another theme. If you are attempting to secure the business of a particular target customer, market in the appropriate channel. Retaining customers is all about exceeding expectations. Make sure the food is fresh. Running out of a particular entree or drink is unacceptable. Customers should never be bored. Add a plethora of activities and entertainment options to your cruise liner to ensure customers can stay busy from the moment they wake until bedtime.

STEP 9: Create your business website

After defining your brand and creating your logo the next step is to create a website for your business .

While creating a website is an essential step, some may fear that it’s out of their reach because they don’t have any website-building experience. While this may have been a reasonable fear back in 2015, web technology has seen huge advancements in the past few years that makes the lives of small business owners much simpler.

Here are the main reasons why you shouldn’t delay building your website:

  • All legitimate businesses have websites - full stop. The size or industry of your business does not matter when it comes to getting your business online.
  • Social media accounts like Facebook pages or LinkedIn business profiles are not a replacement for a business website that you own.
  • Website builder tools like the GoDaddy Website Builder have made creating a basic website extremely simple. You don’t need to hire a web developer or designer to create a website that you can be proud of.

Recommended : Get started today using our recommended website builder or check out our review of the Best Website Builders .

Other popular website builders are: WordPress , WIX , Weebly , Squarespace , and Shopify .

STEP 10: Set up your business phone system

Getting a phone set up for your business is one of the best ways to help keep your personal life and business life separate and private. That’s not the only benefit; it also helps you make your business more automated, gives your business legitimacy, and makes it easier for potential customers to find and contact you.

  • 2. Define customer segments: Segmentation allows you to categorize your target customers into groups with similar characteristics. This could include families, couples, solo travelers, retirees, or specific interest groups such as adventure seekers or luxury enthusiasts.
  • 3. Analyze customer preferences: Study customer reviews, feedback, and online platforms to identify their expectations and preferences. This can help you determine what amenities, activities, and services are most desired by your target customers.
  • 4. Consider geographic factors: Determine the geographical regions where your target customers are located. Is your cruise ship hotel targeting domestic travelers or international tourists? Understanding their geographic preferences and travel patterns will help you tailor your marketing efforts accordingly.
  • Engage with potential customers through surveys or focus groups to gain direct feedback on their preferences and expectations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging travel preferences to ensure your offerings align with the changing demands of your target customers.
  • Consider partnering with travel agents or online platforms that cater to your target customers to increase visibility and reach.

Identifying your target customers and understanding their preferences is an essential part of developing a successful business plan for your cruise ship hotel. By focusing on the needs and desires of your target audience, you can create a unique and enticing experience that sets your business apart from the competition.

Analyze The Competition And Identify Unique Selling Points

When entering the cruise ship hotel industry, it is crucial to thoroughly analyze the competition in order to develop a solid business plan. By understanding what other cruise lines are offering, you can identify unique selling points that will set your cruise ship hotel apart from the competition.

1. Research Competing Cruise Lines: Begin by researching and gathering information on other cruise lines that are offering similar services and itineraries. Look at their websites, brochures, and customer reviews to get a comprehensive understanding of their offerings and customer satisfaction levels.

2. Identify Unique Selling Points: Based on your research, identify the key areas where you can differentiate your cruise ship hotel from the competition. This could be through offering exclusive amenities, specialized excursions, or unique dining experiences.

3. Showcase Your Unique Selling Points: Once you have identified your unique selling points, ensure that they are prominently showcased in your marketing materials, website, and promotional campaigns. Emphasize how these features will provide a superior experience for your guests.

By conducting a thorough analysis of the competition and identifying your unique selling points, you can position your cruise ship hotel as a standout choice in the industry. This will not only attract customers but also give you a competitive edge in the market.

Determine The Location And Size Of The Cruise Ship Hotel.

Choosing the right location for your cruise ship hotel is crucial to the success of your business. The location should be strategically chosen based on factors such as accessibility, tourist demand, and market competition. Conduct thorough research to identify potential cruise destinations that align with your target customers' preferences.

  • Consider popular cruise ports that attract a significant number of tourists and have well-established infrastructure to support cruise ship operations.
  • Take into account the geographical features of the destinations, such as scenic views or natural attractions, as these can enhance the overall experience for your guests.
  • Assess the local tourism industry and the demand for cruise ship hotels in the area. Look for destinations that have a growing tourism market and a high demand for cruise vacations.
  • Evaluate the level of competition in each potential location. Look for gaps in the market that you can fill with your unique offering to attract customers.

Once you have narrowed down the potential locations, it is important to determine the size of your cruise ship hotel. This will depend on factors such as the number of cabins, amenities, and onboard facilities you plan to offer.

  • Consider the market demand and potential customer base when determining the size of your cruise ship hotel. A larger ship may attract more guests and generate higher revenue, but it also comes with higher operating costs.
  • Take into account the onboard facilities and amenities you plan to provide. Higher-end amenities, such as swimming pools, fitness centers, or specialty restaurants, may require additional space.
  • Consider the balance between guest capacity and comfort. Ensure that you have enough cabins and public spaces to accommodate your guests without overcrowding the ship.
  • Consult with industry experts and professionals in the cruise ship industry to gain insights and advice on choosing the right location and size for your cruise ship hotel.
  • Visit potential locations and assess their suitability firsthand. Consider factors such as accessibility, local infrastructure, and tourist attractions.
  • Study the demographics and preferences of your target customers to ensure that the location and size align with their expectations and desires.

Assess The Financial Requirements And Establish A Budget

Assessing the financial requirements and establishing a budget is a crucial step in the process of writing a business plan for a cruise ship hotel. This step ensures that you have a clear understanding of the financial resources needed to successfully launch and operate your business.

To start, you must estimate the initial investment required to purchase or lease a cruise ship, outfit it with the necessary amenities and facilities, and hire staff members. This estimation should take into account the size of the ship, the level of luxury you aim to provide, and any additional expenses such as marketing and legal costs.

Researching industry norms and speaking with experts in the field can give you a better idea of the financial requirements specific to cruise ship hotels. It is essential to gather as much information as possible to ensure your budget is realistic and comprehensive.

Once you have estimated the initial investment, you need to consider ongoing operational expenses such as crew wages, fuel costs, maintenance fees, food and beverage supplies, and utilities. It is crucial to research and obtain accurate cost estimates for these ongoing expenses to create a sustainable and profitable budget.

Securing financing is often necessary to meet the financial requirements of a cruise ship hotel. You may explore options such as personal investment, partnerships, loans, or crowdfunding. It is essential to thoroughly understand the terms and conditions of any financial agreements to ensure they align with your business goals and objectives.

  • Consult with financial professionals such as accountants and financial advisors to better understand the financial aspects of operating a cruise ship hotel.
  • Consider creating a contingency fund in your budget to account for unforeseen expenses or economic downturns.
  • Keep track of industry trends and adjust your budget periodically to stay competitive in the market.

By carefully assessing the financial requirements and establishing a budget, you can ensure that you have allocated the necessary resources to start and sustain your cruise ship hotel business. This step not only helps you make informed financial decisions but also makes your business plan more credible and attractive to potential investors or lenders.

Create A Detailed Marketing Strategy.

In order to attract customers and generate demand for your cruise ship hotel, it is important to create a detailed marketing strategy. This strategy should outline the specific tactics and activities you will undertake to promote your business and target your ideal customers.

1. Identify your target market: Conduct market research to determine the demographic and psychographic profiles of your target customers. This will help you understand their preferences, interests, and motivations, allowing you to tailor your marketing efforts accordingly. Consider factors such as age, income level, travel preferences, and lifestyle choices.

2. Positioning and branding: Develop a unique selling proposition that differentiates your cruise ship hotel from competitors. This can be based on factors such as luxury, affordability, unique experiences, or themed offerings. Create a compelling brand identity that aligns with your target market and effectively communicates the value and benefits of choosing your cruise ship hotel.

3. Online presence and website: In today's digital age, having a strong online presence is crucial for any business. Create a user-friendly website that showcases the features, amenities, and experiences offered by your cruise ship hotel. Optimize your website for search engines to improve your visibility and organic reach. Utilize online booking platforms and integrate social media accounts to expand your reach and engage with potential customers.

4. Social media marketing: Leverage social media platforms to connect with your target audience and build brand awareness. Develop a content strategy that includes engaging posts, captivating visuals, and interactive elements. Regularly update your social media accounts to maintain visibility and build a loyal following. Utilize paid advertising options to reach a wider audience and drive traffic to your website or booking platforms.

5. Email marketing: Build a database of potential customers and create email marketing campaigns to stay in touch and promote special offers, discounts, and upcoming cruises. Personalize the emails based on customer preferences and past interactions to increase open and conversion rates. Use automated email marketing tools to streamline the process and track the effectiveness of your campaigns.

  • Collaborate with influencers and travel bloggers to reach a wider audience and gain credibility.
  • Create compelling content such as blog posts, videos, and travel guides to establish yourself as an authority in the industry.
  • Offer referral incentives to encourage satisfied customers to recommend your cruise ship hotel to their friends and family.

By creating a detailed marketing strategy, you will be able to effectively promote your cruise ship hotel, attract your target customers, and generate bookings and revenue. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of your marketing efforts and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal results.

Develop A Comprehensive Operational Plan

Once you have finalized your business concept and identified your target market, it's crucial to develop a comprehensive operational plan that outlines the day-to-day operations of your cruise ship hotel. This plan should include all aspects of running the business, from staffing and training to logistics and maintenance.

  • Identify the key positions required for smooth operations, such as ship captain, crew members, hospitality staff, and entertainment personnel.
  • Develop recruitment strategies to find qualified individuals for each role.
  • Establish a comprehensive training program to ensure all staff members are well-equipped to provide exceptional service.
  • Plan for the procurement and management of necessary supplies, such as food and beverages, linens, and amenities.
  • Establish protocols for maintenance and upkeep of the ship, including regular inspections and repairs.
  • Create contingency plans for emergencies, such as medical incidents or natural disasters.
  • Design and implement processes to enhance the guest experience, such as seamless check-in and check-out procedures, personalized services, and efficient customer service.
  • Ensure that all onboard amenities and entertainment options are well-maintained and meet the expectations of your target market.
  • Consider implementing technology solutions to streamline operations and enhance the guest experience, such as mobile apps for booking services or managing onboard activities.

Tips for Developing an Operational Plan:

  • Consult with industry professionals or experts who have experience in running cruise ship hotels to gather insights and best practices.
  • Conduct regular staff training sessions and workshops to ensure ongoing improvement and professionalism among your team.
  • Regularly review and update your operational plan to adapt to changing market conditions, industry trends, and customer preferences.

Seek Legal And Regulatory Guidance For Maritime Operations.

This step involves consulting with legal professionals who specialize in maritime law and regulations to navigate the complex legal landscape of operating a cruise ship.

Here are some important considerations when seeking legal and regulatory guidance for maritime operations:

  • Identify and understand international and domestic regulations: A cruise ship hotel operates in international waters and must comply with various international maritime regulations, as well as domestic laws of the countries it visits. Legal professionals can help identify and interpret these regulations to ensure the cruise ship hotel operates within the legal framework.
  • Obtain necessary permits and licenses: Operating a cruise ship hotel requires obtaining proper permits and licenses from relevant authorities. Legal guidance can help navigate the application process, ensuring that all necessary permits and licenses are obtained.
  • Comply with safety and security regulations: Safety and security are paramount in maritime operations. Legal professionals can help ensure compliance with safety standards, including emergency preparedness plans, life-saving equipment, and fire safety measures.
  • Address environmental concerns: Cruise ship hotels must also comply with environmental regulations, such as waste management and emissions regulations, to minimize their impact on the environment. Legal experts can advise on best practices and help develop sustainable policies for the operation.
  • Establish employment and labor practices: Cruise ship hotels employ a diverse workforce from various countries. Legal guidance can help establish employment and labor practices that comply with international labor laws and protect the rights and well-being of the employees.

Tips for seeking legal and regulatory guidance:

  • Choose a legal firm with expertise in maritime law: Look for legal professionals or law firms that specialize in maritime law and have experience in the cruise ship industry.
  • Stay updated on changing regulations: Maritime regulations can change over time. Stay informed about any updates or changes to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Consult with industry associations: Industry associations for the cruise ship industry can provide guidance and resources on legal and regulatory matters. Consider joining relevant associations to gain access to a network of experts.
  • Establish a strong relationship with legal advisors: Building a strong relationship with legal advisors who understand the specific needs of the cruise ship hotel can provide ongoing support and guidance for any legal challenges that may arise.

In conclusion, writing a business plan for a cruise ship hotel requires careful research, analysis, and strategic planning. By following the nine steps outlined in this checklist, entrepreneurs can ensure they have thoroughly considered every aspect of their venture.

Through conducting feasibility studies and market research, identifying target customers and competitors, and developing comprehensive operational and marketing strategies, entrepreneurs can position their cruise ship hotel for success in the competitive maritime industry.

Additionally, seeking legal and regulatory guidance for maritime operations is crucial to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. By considering financial requirements, establishing a budget, and offering unique selling points and experiences, entrepreneurs can create a compelling business model for their cruise ship hotel.

With an all-inclusive package deal that includes accommodations, dining, entertainment, excursions, and additional services, entrepreneurs can cater to the diverse preferences and interests of their target customers, while also generating additional revenue streams.

AT&T Cruise Packages FAQ

Can i use at&t cruise packages with at&t international day pass for business.

Yes, AT&T Cruise packages and AT&T International Day Pass for Business (or AT&T Business Passport) can be used together. AT&T Cruise packages provide for your talk, text & data usage only while At Sea on qualifying ships. “At Sea” is when the ship is at least 6 nautical miles from land. We recommend adding  AT&T International Day Pass for Business or, for longer trips, AT&T Business Passport , to your line to cover usage while in port or on land.  For more information on International Day Pass for Business and AT&T Business Passport, visit att.com/internationalforbiz .

Are AT&T Cruise packages available on all cruise ships?

No. AT&T Cruise Basic and AT&T Cruise Plus packages are for use only on select cruise ships listed at att.com/cruise . We recommend checking the cruise ship list before signing up for one of these packages. If your ship is not on the list of included ships for the Cruise Basic/Cruise Plus packages, it may be included as a qualifying ship for AT&T Cruise SM Day Pass (go to att.com/cruisedpterms for details). See our cruise ship guide to view all ships for Cruise Basic, Cruise Plus, and Cruise Day Pass packages.

To have your cruise ship usage covered by a Cruise package rather than charged at Pay-Per-Use rates, it’s necessary that you choose the corresponding Cruise package for the ship you are on.

Will one AT&T Cruise package cover all the devices on my account?

No. Cruise packages are added on a per-line basis. If you are traveling with multiple wireless devices that you wish to use during your cruise, each device must have its own Cruise package.

How long are the AT&T Cruise packages effective?

Cruise Basic and Cruise Plus packages are effective for 30 days from when they are added and will expire automatically, so there's no need to remove them from your line of service when you return home. Cruise Basic and Cruise Plus one-time charge package charges are not pro-rated for cruises less than 30 days. If you plan to cruise for more than 30 days, you must add an additional cruise package after the initial package has expired. Cruise Day Pass is effective on your line until you let us know to remove it. There is no charge to have the Cruise Day Pass on your line, you will only get charged a daily fee when you use the Cruise Day Pass on a qualifying ship. Cruise Day Pass daily fees are separate from International Day Pass for Business daily fees, and you could be charged for both on the same day if you have used your device (1) At Sea onboard a qualifying ship and (2) in port or on land in an IDPB destination within the same 24-hour period.

Will my AT&T Cruise package cover my cellular usage while on shore?

No, Cruise Packages only cover usage while connected to the cellular network while At Sea on qualifying cruise ships.  Add AT&T International Day Pass for Business ,  AT&T Business Passport or another available package to cover cellular usage while in port or on land. Pay-Per-Use rates will apply to usage in port or on land if you do not add an international roaming package for such usage.

How can I tell when I am connected to a ship’s cellular network and which ship network I am on?

When you are traveling on a ship that qualifies for the Cruise Basic and Cruise Plus package and you have connected to that ship's cellular network, the display on your device will show Cellular at Sea, wmsatsea, 901-18 or NOR-18 . Your usage on that ship will count against the Cruise Basic and Cruise Plus packages or will be charged at Pay-Per-Use rates.

When you are traveling on a ship that qualifies for the Cruise Day Pass package and you have connected to that ship’s cellular network, the display on your device will show Telenor Maritime, 901-12, or NOR-12 . Your usage on that ship will count against the Cruise Day Pass package or will be charged at Pay-Per-Use rates.

When connected on a qualifying ship’s cellular network, your usage will always count against your applicable Cruise package or will be charged at Pay-Per-Use rates (if you don’t have a Cruise package).

Cruise ship cellular service becomes available when the ship is at least 6 nautical miles from land (“At Sea”). Cruise ships turn off their wireless networks at around 6 nautical miles to land, and while in port. When the cruise ship network is off, land-based cellular service is provided by the nearest country. Once you are connected to a land-based carrier, your device will display that carrier's cellular network information. If line is provisioned with AT&T International Day Pass for Business (IDPB), such will be charged an IDPB daily fee for this usage (or Pay-Per-Use rates if you don’t have IDPB or other eligible international roaming package).

What if I use my phone without an AT&T Cruise package, or I’m on a cruise ship not covered by my AT&T Cruise package, or my package expires?

Pay-Per-Use rates apply if you don't purchase a cruise package, if your ship is not included in the Cruise package you have on your line, or when your package expires. Place your device in airplane mode to avoid Pay-Per-Use charges.

What happens if I use more data than the AT&T Cruise Basic or Cruise Plus package data allowance?

Cruise Basic and Cruise Plus data overages incurred are billed at $10/100MB. To avoid unexpected cellular data charges, turn off Data Roaming in your device Settings.

Do I need an AT&T Cruise Basic/Cruise Plus package and an AT&T Cruise Day Pass package at the same time?

No, each cruise ship has only one cellular network. When connected on the ship’s cellular network with the applicable Cruise package, your usage will always count against the applicable Cruise package. If you don’t have the applicable Cruise package for the cruise ship you’re on, you will be charged at Pay-Per-Use rates.

1.0 Executive Summary

The purpose of this business plan is to raise $200,000,000 for the development of a cruise ship while showcasing the expected financials and operations over the next three years. Cruise Ship, Inc. (“the Company”) is a New York based corporation that will provide customers with a large scale cruise ship that will be available for international travel within the Caribbean. The Company was founded by John Doe.

1.1 Products and Services

The primary revenue center for the business will come from the ongoing usage of the Cruise Ship for excursions to the Caribbean from New York City. The business will charge fees of $500 to $2,000 depending on the level of cabin that is requested by the customer. The business will generate moderate gross margins from its services on an ongoing basis. The Cruise Ship will operate from April to October on a yearly basis. The business will generate secondary revenues from concession sales, product sales, and other products. The third section of the business plan will further describe the services offered by the Cruise Ship.

1.2 The Financing

Mr. Doe is seeking to raise $200,000,000 from an investor(s). Mr. Doe expects to sell a 50% equity interest in the business in exchange for the requisite capital. The tentative terms of this agreement can be found in the second section of the business plan. The financing will be used for the following: • Development of the Company’s Cruise Ship. • Financing for the first six months of operation. • Capital to purchase FF&E for the Cruise Ship.

1.3 Mission Statement

Cruise Ship, Inc.’s mission is to become a well known international excursion travel vehicle for people within the Company’s targeted market.

1.4 Mangement Team

The Company was founded by John Doe. Mr. Doe has more than 10 years of experience in the entertainment management industry. Through his expertise, he will be able to bring the operations of the business to profitability within its first year of operations.

1.5 Sales Forecasts

Mr. Doe expects a strong rate of growth at the start of operations. Below are the expected financials over the next three years.

1.6 Expansion Plan

The Founder expects that the business will aggressively expand during the first three years of operation. Mr. Doe intends to implement marketing campaigns that will effectively target individuals that are interested in Cruise Ship facilities.

2.0 Company and Financing Summary

2.1 Registered Name and Corporate Structure

Cruise Ship, Inc. The Company is registered as a corporation in the State of New York.

2.2 Required Funds

At this time, the Cruise Ship requires $200,000,000 of equity funds. Below is a breakdown of how these funds will be used:

2.3 Investor Equity

At this time, the Company is seeking to sell a 50% equity interest in the business for the requisite capital sought in this business plan. The investor(s) will also receive a seat on the board of directors and a regular stream of dividends starting in the first year of operation. Please reference the Company’s private placement memorandum for more information regarding the specifics of this investment.

2.4 Management Equity

After the requisite capital is raised, Mr. Doe will retain a 50% ownership in the business.

2.5 Exit Strategy

The Management has planned for three possible exit strategies. The first strategy would be to sell the Company to a larger entity at a significant premium. Since, the cruise ship industry maintains a moderate risk profile once the business is established; the Management feels that the Company could be sold for ten to fifteen times earnings. The second exit scenario would entail selling a portion of the Company via an initial public offering (or “IPO”). After a detailed analysis, it was found that the Company could sell for twenty times earnings on the open market depending on the business’s annual growth rate and strength of earnings. However, taking a company public involves significant legal red tape. Cruise Ship, Inc. would be bound by the significant legal framework of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in addition to the legal requirements set forth in form S1 of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Company would also have to comply with the Securities Act of 1933 and the Exchange Act of 1934. The last exit scenario would involve the use of a private placement memorandum to raise capital from private sources. This is also a significantly expensive process that requires the assistance of both an experienced securities law firm and an investment bank. Funds would be raised from private equity and merchant banking sources in exchange for a percentage of the Company’s stock.

3.0 Products and Services

Below is a description of the services offered by the Cruise Ship.

3.1 Cruise Ship Operations

Management intends to develop a 400 cabin cruise ship that will travel from harbors within New York to locations within the Caribbean Islands. The business intends to charge $500 to $2,000 per trip (per passenger) for excursions to these islands. Each trip will last four days to seven days depending on the season. Management is currently sourcing a cruise ship development firm to produce the vessel that will be operated by the business. While the business will be registered as an American corporation, the ship itself will be registered in the Netherlands. The Cruise Ship will provide a substantial amount of entertainment to its customers on a daily basis while they are aboard the ship. Management intends to hire a cruise director, entertainment director, and other staff that will ensure that cruise goers have an outstanding vacation experience while they are aboard the Company’s ship. Management intends to spend $130,000,000 on the development of the Company’s initial cruise ship.

3.2 Concessions and Products

The secondary revenue stream for the business will come from the ongoing sale of concessions and products as it relates to events and daily admissions that are related to the cruise ship. This revenue center will ensure that the business remains profitable and cash flow positive at all time.

4.0 Strategic and Market Analysis

4.1 Economic Outlook

This section of the analysis will detail the economic climate, the cruise ship industry, the customer profile, and the competition that the business will face as it progresses through its business operations. Currently, the economic market condition in the United States is moderate. The meltdown of the sub prime mortgage market coupled with increasing gas prices has led many people to believe that the US is on the cusp of a double dip economic recession. This slowdown in the economy has also greatly impacted real estate sales, which has halted to historical lows. This may have an impact on the Cruise Ship’s ability to secure a positive cash flow and profits.

4.2 Industry Analysis

Within the United States, there are approximately 2,000 cruise ships that operate on a for profit basis or a not for profit basis. Each year, these businesses generate approximately $20 billion of revenues while providing jobs to more than 312,000 people. Annual payrolls in each of the last five years have exceeded $8 billion. This is a mature industry, and the expected future growth rate is expected to remain in lockstep with that of the general economy. Due to the high costs associated with developing an Cruise Ship– the associated costs with developing this facility should generate a very high return on investment.

4.3 Customer Profile

The Cruise Ship average client will be an upper middle class man or woman that enjoys cruise ships as family entertainment. Common traits among clients will include: • Annual household income exceeding $35,000 • Will spend $250 to $500 per person (on a daily visit basis) per visit to the Cruise Ship. • Lives within 60 miles of the New York metropolitan area.

4.4 Competitive Analysis

This is one of the sections of the business plan that you must write completely on your own. The key to writing a strong competitive analysis is that you do your research on the local competition. Find out who your competitors are by searching online directories and searching in your local Yellow Pages. If there are a number of competitors in the same industry (meaning that it is not feasible to describe each one) then showcase the number of businesses that compete with you, and why your business will provide customers with service/products that are of better quality or less expensive than your competition.

5.0 Marketing Plan

• Develop an online presence by developing a website and placing the Company’s name and contact information with online directories.

5.2 Marketing Strategies

Management intends to use a qualified advertising and marketing firm to help the Cruise Ship reach its intended audience of people living in the Company’s targeted market. This campaign will include the use of traditional print and media advertising as well as the Internet. Direct advertising campaigns will be of significant importance to the Company as the business is offering its services to a specified group of middle and upper income people. Timely coverage of the Company and its Cruise Ship and related facilities will be further directed through ongoing press relations, news releases and feature stories targeted at key professional communities and other media outlets. Publicity activities will be designed to generate ongoing coverage about the Cruise Ship in targeted media by providing writers and editors with newsworthy releases, features, stories, briefs, and visual material for their columns and stories. In depth coverage may also be obtained about the Company by hosting in-house interviews to be conducted by our company spokesperson, John Doe.

5.3 Pricing

In this section, describe the pricing of your services and products. You should provide as much information as possible about your pricing as possible in this section. 6.0 Organizational Plan and Personnel Summary

6.1 Corporate Organization

6.2 Organizational Budget

Marine Cruise Ship Business Plan And Proposal

Task: Are luxury products and services viable business ventures in India?

Executive Summary The present marine cruise ship business plan will explore the viability of establishing cruise ship businesses in India. India has grown to become the second-fastest developing economy. It has resulted in many Indian, not turning their attention from only working to enjoying the fruits of their labour. It has been seen that the Indian consumers are buying many luxury vehicles, clothing, furniture and other foreign brands. But while many invest in luxury foreign brands for their homes, many are also taking out time to experience luxury tours and travel across India and the world by visiting different tourist destinations. It has resulted in the marine cruise vessel tours developing considerable popularity among the middle and upper-class Indians, which has resulted in a boom in demand for its services. Currently, less than a dozen cruise vessels are serving the Indian consumer market, and these are not able to meet the tour demands. It results in travellers needing to book their trips months beforehand resulting in severe delays and loss of interest among interested customers. The high demand for luxury tours and travel has also created an excellent opportunity for investors to invest in the industry.

Introduction The marine cruise ship business plan will investigate the demand for luxury products and services in the Indian market. As India grows more economically stable and robust, the conservative Indian mentality is rapidly changing with many now prepared to spend their money on luxurious lifestyles. It can be seen through the luxury vehicles, branded clothing and other foreign-branded items the Indian consumer is developing a taste for. With this in mind, other sectors are also experiencing huge spikes in demand such as the tourism industry which is seeing more Indian families travelling during their summer and winter vacations to famous holiday destinations and travelling on luxury tours across the nation (Majumdar, 2010). A tour option that is growing in popularity has been luxury marine cruise tours which are growing in demand, but there are a limited number of vessels providing such services. It has resulted in overwhelming demand than the supply capacity, resulting in an attractive marine cruise ship business plan investment opportunity. The past two decades have observed various luxury brands enter the Indian market. It is a clear indication of increased per capita income and the consumer changing perception towards financial insecurity. In the past, consumers remained wary regarding spending money and were more inclined towards saving as much revenue as possible. It was due to various factors, including income insecurity, but as India’s economy expands, there is a high demand for products and service delivery. It is beneficial for all stakeholders as each one benefits financially. Businesses benefit from increasing sales, the number of companies being established is rising, which is, in turn, resulting in high demand for skilled professionals. Automatically per capita income increases, resulting in each stakeholder saving more money and triggering many to consider spending surplus income to pursue luxury items and activities. With surplus income being reported in most Asian countries, many businesses and services in developed nations expand their operation to developing countries. While profits may be lower in developing nations, the large population in the region helps make the marine cruise ship business plan a viable option for investors.

Problem Statement of Marine cruise ship business plan With an increasing demand for luxury products and services developing in India, attractive investment opportunities are also growing alongside the market. It has resulted in investors with surplus saving which can be invested in ventures like the marine cruise ship business plan. The business plan offers attractive opportunities that promise to deliver a significant return on the investment-only due to the high demand for the products and services. With Europe and the USA experiencing financial crisis, investors with liquid funding can easily purchase luxury marine cruise vessels for very reasonable prices and begin a lucrative marine tour business in India.

Project Proposal, Initiation and Startup Today the Indian consumer is getting attracted to foreign and luxury brands, making it essential for any investor looking to start a business to theme their business on luxury and foreign brands. Unlike two decades ago, when the Indian consumer emphasized low-cost products, they are today prepared and willing to spend their funds only on luxury and well recognized global brands and services. It has transformed the way business is set up in India where the investor requires to provide the consumer with internationally recognized brands and meet international standards to secure the required response for the product (Sinha, 2015).

As a result, previously unknown investment opportunities such as marine cruise ship business plan, projects were not in demand. The Indian consumers are now capable of affording the facilities and spending the money on such facilities. The exposure to international media has been another significant contributor to the recent increases in demand as consumers have been exposed to new ideas and destinations across the globe, which they are willing to explore and visit.

One area which has shown considerable interest among the middle and higher-income group consumers in India is the marine cruise travel industry. The industry consists of organized cruises that take tourist on luxury marine vessels on tours around the Indian coastline and international tourism destinations close to India. The terms are usually limited to 7 days or less, which allow families to take time off from work and travel during their summer and winter vacations.

But as the demand for luxury service increases, there is still a significant deficit linked to the number of available vessels, leading to long waiting lists for travellers. It has opened up a very lucrative opportunity for an investor who has the financial resource and funding to invest in the business venture. The marine cruise ship business plan deals with luxurious transport and tourist facilities resulting in a business requiring a considerable amount of capital to acquire the marine vessels needed to set up the business. But with high standards, the business venture promises to deliver huge profits and returns to the travellers paying high package fees for the facilities resulting in increased profits.

There is also a high demand for the marine cruise ship packages with projections estimating a fleet of 5 vessels to remain fully booked for the next five years. It is due to the large number of consumers located on the Indian subcontinent. Still, it's also important to note that tourist from neighbouring countries has also shown considerable interest in the tours. The marine cruise ship business plan must also market its services in neighbouring countries the vessel will be visiting during its voyage and tap into those markets. Countries with considerable interest include Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Indonesia among several other nations in the region.

The marine cruise ship business plan tour packages would require divided into categories: offering tour packages that encircle the Indian sub-continent and visiting small islands before docking at central posts and reversing the trip with new passengers. The second would be international voyages that would see the vessels travel along the Indian coastline and visit international destinations like Sri Lanka, Malaysian, Singapore and Indonesia before returning to the home port. These would be longer voyages and mainly for travellers who want to spend an extended period at sea while visiting different international tourist destinations (Atwal & Jain, 2012).

The leading consumer identified in the Indian market has been the one who only wants to spend a few days at sea before returning to the port. They can take a flight directly back to their home city after the vacation. For the marine cruise ship business plan to meet the consumers demand the company would require to allocate 4 of its five vessels towards serving the local travellers needs with a single container to cater for the international long-distance traveller. The vessels' roles can also be reorganized at a later stage expanding on the demand from the consumer but will mainly target serving the local tourist looking to deliver a luxury cruise ship voyage at sea to their loved one.

Time Schedule required for the Marine cruise ship business plan

With the demand for the service already overloading current service providers, there is no time to order new vessel construction since this would take several years to complete. Instead, the company will search for financially constrained marine cruise ship companies in the USA and Europe and purchase their vessels. As the financial crises continue to grip the USA and many European countries like Turkey, many marine cruise liner companies are selling their vessels at very affordable prices, allowing the business to acquire the vessels quickly and begin operations within six months. The marine cruise ship business plan would see initial investment in 2 cruise ship vessels. The company would expand to buy three more vessels after gaining insight and understanding linked to the businesses' operations. Stage one would see the company's establishment and investment in two marine cruise vessels within six months of the approval of the proposal after which the proposal would move to stage two which would see investment in an additional three vessels in 12 months after the project set up. Projected income from the marine cruise ship business plan would begin immediately due to a vast consumer market prepared to pay for the travel packages.

Project Budget

Conclusion With the demand already existing in the market, the business is set to experience rapid success and experience fast returns on its investments. With a high demand for marine travel tour packages already persistent in the Indian market, the project is expected to register high returns on investments. The borrowed funds will be repaid within five years. The marine cruise ship business plan will also be considered for the 2nd phase of expansion after the first five years.

Carnival Firenze ™

  • Sails From:
Long Beach is fun, but it isn't known as a hotspot of Italian culture… yet! In spring 2024, Carnival Firenze will debut, setting sail from this homeport towards south-of-the-border fun along Mexico's Pacific coast! So, Long Beach, you're wondering what to expect from Fun Italian Style ™ ? Grab your movie star sunglasses and throw on a scarf — just for style — as you make your entrance at Piazza Duomo , named for Florence's iconic domed cathedral. To get a taste for onboard flavor and flair, check out spots like the elegant three-course Michelangelo and Medici Restaurants , traditional Italian foods, cocktails and more at Il Viaggio , plus Italian street food spot La Strada Grill ™ . You're even going to find an Italian market, Il Mercato , featuring faves like sauced-up meatballs, sandwiches with inspiration from Italy and beyond, plus sausages and salads. And since we're always authentic… most of the time, you can enjoy the fusion-y goodness of Mexican-Italian Tomodoro ™ plus Guy's Burger Joint , which now features classics and burgers with Italian twists. For refreshment served up in a glass, look to cocktail bar Amari ™ , frozen drinks with a bit of attitude at Rococó ™ , Frizzante ™ with its three specialties (bubbly drinks, snacks and coffee!), plus classic Italian cocktails and martinis with surprising and fashionable twists (and live music too!) at Moda Bar and Lounge ™ . Even more spots for entertainment include the classic-theater vibe of Teatro Rosso featuring Playlist Productions shows, and Tuscan Lounge paying tribute to Florence's iconic home region. Let's not forget Terrazza staterooms — we could never! — which give you a stylish, comfy place to unwind from all the fun… near a private deck featuring exclusive amenities like all-day lounging at Terrazza Moda home to great views, drinks, entertainment, whirlpools and more. While we're excited about the Italian side of this ship, it's not the whole story. Carnival has some true fan-favorites we knew folks would be asking for. ( ) That's why Carnival Firenze also includes familiar flavors like Bonsai Teppanyaki ™ and Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse ™ . Places to celebrate absolutely anything (or just nothing!) include Piano Bar 88 and Serenity Bar , while you can seriously kick back at Cloud 9 Spa ™ and Serenity Adult-Only Retreat ™ . Kids are going to love Camp Ocean ™ , Circle “C” ® and Club O2 ® — each one is perfectly designed for a different age group. And if active/splashy fun is your thing, that's honestly a great thing and we can tell you're going to be spending time at WaterWorks ™ and SportSquare ™ , home to a ropes course, jogging track, mini golf course and outdoor fitness center. Long Beach! Carnival Firenze is sailing now from your sweet shores. Andiamo!

Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise ships leave from Baltimore for the first time since the collapse of the Key Bridge

  • Cruise ships left the Port of Baltimore for the first time since March 26.
  • The port's terminal was blocked after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed and killed six workers.
  • Rebuilding the bridge will take four years and could cost up to $1.9 billion.

Insider Today

Two months after Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed, cruise ships are now taking off from the Port of Baltimore.

A Royal Caribbean ship called Vision of the Seas left from the port on Saturday for a trip to Bermuda. And a Carnival Cruise ship called Pride destined for Greenland and Canada left Baltimore on Sunday.

The two trips are notable as the first cruise ships to leave Baltimore since the port was blocked by the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26. The bridge collapsed after being hit by a cargo ship, killing six workers. The Francis Scott Key Bridge services about 30,000 people a day.

"We've been working through this process for the past two months," Jonathan Daniels, the director for the Port of Baltimore said in a video posted to X on May 25 by the port.

One week ago, the port's terminal was the headquarters for the recovery operations for the Francis Scott Key Bridge, Daniels added. The terminal is also a massive area of tourism for Maryland, bringing in 440,000 cruise passengers a year, Daniels told the Baltimore Sun.

The project to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge will take four years and is estimated to cost between $1.7 billion and $1.9 billion, a spokesperson for the Maryland Department of Transportation said in May 2023.

The Very Slow Restart of G.M.’s Cruise Driverless Car Business

An incident that seriously injured a pedestrian in San Francisco led Cruise to take all of its cars off the road. The question now is when they will return.

A white compact car, with cameras and other equipment mounted on its roof and no driver behind the wheel, is shown on an urban street.

By Yiwen Lu

Reporting from Warren, Mich., and Mountain View, Calif.

At a sprawling complex in Warren, Mich., General Motors’ hopes for its driverless car future play out in a virtual reality headset offered to visitors.

In a video, the electric and autonomous car drives itself. Wirelessly connected to traffic lights and the surrounding streets, the car avoids collisions and reduces congestion, part of what G.M. calls its “0-0-0” vision — “zero crashes, zero emission, zero congestion.”

At least, that’s the plan. G.M.’s driverless future looks a lot further away today than it did a year ago, when Cruise, G.M.’s driverless car subsidiary, was deep into an aggressive expansion of its robot taxi services, testing in 15 cities across 10 states.

On Oct. 2, a Cruise driverless car hit and dragged a pedestrian for 20 feet on a San Francisco street, causing severe injuries. Weeks later, the California Department of Motor Vehicles accused Cruise of omitting the dragging from a video of the incident that was initially provided to the agency and suspended the company’s license in the state.

In November, Cruise voluntarily paused all operations across the country after facing widespread criticism that it was neglecting safety as it expanded its driverless taxi service. Cruise also pushed out nine executives, its chief executive stepped down , and the company laid off a quarter of its work force.

Now comes the hard part: Rebuilding a ruined reputation. In recent interviews with The New York Times, the three executives now running Cruise say they are in no rush to get back on the road. After learning the hard way about the risks of moving too fast with a cutting-edge technology, Cruise has slowed its breakneck development to a crawl to avoid another major mishap.

“For a long time before, Cruise was really moving fast and other competitors were not,” said Craig Glidden, who became president and chief administrative officer of Cruise in November. Now, he said, safety is Cruise’s “North Star.”

But going slow means the company risks falling far behind its top rivals. Waymo, a subsidiary of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has had driverless taxis operating in the Phoenix area since 2020 and San Francisco since late 2022 without serious incidents, and it recently expanded to Los Angeles . Zoox , an Amazon subsidiary, has been testing a steering-wheel-free robot taxi in Las Vegas since last June.

“Catching up with Waymo technologically is going to take three to five years at best,” said Alex Roy, a consultant and former executive in the autonomous car industry. He added that it was even harder for Cruise to catch up commercially because Waymo was “generating revenues with trust that Cruise never earned.”

Some industry observers were surprised G.M. didn’t shut down Cruise after its public meltdown late last year. Since acquiring the company in 2016, G.M. has spent over $8 billion on its driverless subsidiary. Cruise lost $3.48 billion last year, and another $519 million over the first three months of 2024.

“I was thinking in the late part of 2023 and into early 2024 that the most likely outcome was that they were going to completely turn off Cruise,” said Reilly Brennan, a partner at Trucks Venture Capital, which invests in the future of transportation.

But after slashing $1 billion from Cruise’s 2024 budget, Mary T. Barra, G.M.’s chief executive, reiterated her commitment to the company during earnings calls. In April, she told investors that Cruise had made “tangible progress,” although G.M. is exploring different options to fund the business, including taking outside investments.

After Cruise’s former chief executive and co-founder Kyle Vogt resigned in November, G.M. appointed two presidents who report to its board: Mo Elshenawy, previously the company’s executive vice president of engineering, and Mr. Glidden, who also serves as G.M.’s general counsel. In February, Cruise hired Steve Kenner, a veteran product safety executive, as chief safety officer.

The three executives all decide on safety decisions, such as when to take the next step in deployment. Those calls, Mr. Kenner said, have to be unanimous.

So far, Cruise has taken baby steps back to the road. In April, it picked Phoenix, the home to its operations center, to be the first city to restart testing with human drivers. On May 13, after a month of driving a handful of vehicles in order to understand local road features, Cruise transitioned into supervised autonomous testing , with two safety drivers per vehicle.

Cruise used to say its robot taxis were, on average, safer than a human driver. But so-called edge cases — incidents like road construction or erratic cyclists that humans can intuitively react to — bedeviled the robot taxis. Mr. Elshenawy said the cars had improved their navigation of construction zones and how they deal with emergency vehicles.

Cruise hopes to offer driverless ride-hailing service in one city by the end of 2024, while operating with safety drivers in fewer than five cities, Mr. Glidden said. That is, if the edge case issue can be improved.

While Mr. Elshenawy’s engineering team works to improve the technology, Mr. Glidden and Mr. Kenner have been traveling across the country to meet with regulators. Cruise has met with local officials and state regulators in Arizona, Texas and California, as well as with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It has also spoken with several cities in the Southeast where it previously tested its fleet.

In California, Cruise has answered questions from state regulators about driverless testing, but it is unclear if or when it could regain a permit. The talent pool in Silicon Valley is essential to Cruise’s business, so executives say they are committed to staying in the state.

Whether Cruise’s cautious approach restores faith in the company among regulators is an open question. Dave Cortese, a California state senator representing Silicon Valley, said the autonomous vehicle industry’s aggressive testing on public roads in the past had “created tension and distrust.”

For the company to win over regulators, it needs a “profound demonstration of transparency” to demonstrate that an incident like Oct. 2 will not happen again, said Mr. Roy, the consultant.

“We may not agree, but I think there are lots of places where we do agree,” said Tilly Chang, executive director of San Francisco County Transportation Authority. “But it is also unclear to us what it would take for them to get reinstated.”

First cruise ship sets sail from Port of Baltimore since Key Bridge collapse: ‘It’s a good day’

The festive occasion marked the first cruise ship to arrive and depart the Port of Baltimore since the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26.

Less than a week prior, the terminal was the headquarters for the Key Bridge Response Unified Command to coordinate recovery operations, Daniels said. They began condensing their workspace down last weekend, started packing up Monday night after the Dali was refloated that morning and were out by Tuesday afternoon.

“While there is still work that needs to be done to be able to complete the salvage operation, this is a wonderful sign that the next milestone is pointing to the fact that business is truly returning to the port,” Daniels said.

Just after 10 a.m., the sound of steel drums echoed in the terminal as it began to fill with passengers eager to board Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas cruise ship for a five-night trip to Bermuda.

Tom Sitzler said he and his group had planned the trip since August to celebrate his partner’s 60th birthday. They live in Washington, D.C., but had a very specific reason to sail out of the Port of Baltimore.

“The whole purpose of the cruise though was to actually cruise out of Baltimore out past Annapolis, because Allen grew up there, the birthday boy, and he wants to see Annapolis from the bay,” Sitzler said.

“I’ve always wanted to cruise down the bay and see all the spots where I grew up,” said Allen Steven, the birthday boy.

Cruises that were already underway or were scheduled in the past two months have been rerouted to the Norfolk Cruise Terminal . Steven said if their trip had been moved to leave from Norfolk, they would have rebooked.

A group of five friends from Harford County also were heading on a cruise to celebrate, donning matching pink hats that said “Friends on the Loose 2024 Friends Trip.”

“We are celebrating a milestone birthday,” said Kathy Schlehr. “We have all attained the age of 70 or beyond.”

“Not yet!” someone chimed in.

The group said they were ecstatic when they found out about a week and a half ago they would be sailing out of the Port of Baltimore. The departure location was one of the reasons they went on the cruise.

The return of cruises benefits the tourism industry in Baltimore and the rest of the state, Daniels said.

More than 440,000 passengers went through the Cruise Maryland Terminal in 2023, he said, and they may also stay in hotels, eat at restaurants and even come back to enjoy the city afterward.

“Many of them are experiencing what Baltimore has to offer for the very first time,” Daniels said.

The 915-foot long vessel with a 25-foot draft got underway after 4 p.m. and used the 400-foot-wide, 50-foot-deep channel that opened Tuesday in the Patapsco River. In addition to a pilot, it was accompanied by two tugboats.

Even though the Unified Command vacated the cruise terminal, operations are still ongoing, just back in their own spaces, said David O’Connell, the Coast Guard’s captain of the port. They coordinate daily on ongoing operations, including salvage work in the main and outside channels as well as coordinating with the Army Corps of Engineers on vessel traffic in the temporary channels.

Saturday, the Army Corps announced a delayed goal of June 8-10 to restore full access to the federal channel. Officials had previously said this would be achieved by the end of May.

“It was great all being together and coordinating operations, but it’s great to be here and see this place in a different light,” O’Connell said. “You see it lively with people that are going on vacation, going through security, the ship is out back. It’s a good day.”
